I think the next thing to do is cut out the hole on the driver side for the gas filler, that way i can get the full 20 gal instead of the hose limiting it to 15. plus it would be nice not having to move the license plate all the time.

Then Undercoating sounds easy enough.

SIMONCLAY: is there chrome plasti-dip? I dont think im gonna black them out, just make them really shine.

I should have read closer (or at least all) I didn't know you wanted chrome. There's no chrome plastidip to my knowledge. Sorry

No big deal, I actually been looking at different types of paint and it looks like duplicolor has a specific type of aerosol can for spraying the wheels. They have about 6 different types of colors on their website. I think I might use duplicolor.

Whats the low down on the cb radios? any good brands or models that are cheap but well designed?

Im thinking about getting a ammo box for the center console and putting the cb radio in it.

You have to pull the vent house out of the fuel tank and cut off about 7 1/2" to get that extra 5 gallons. Doesn't work on all years though. I think only models made in 92 or after, but I might be wrong

The cb your brother has is probably the best deal on the most popular brand out there. It is a cobra. Also works for PA and weather forecasts.

what would be the best brand for lights behind the gauges? I cant quite figure out which ones are good and will go well with the jeep. On the brighter side, it rained and water got into the jeep...

GOOD THING I RIPPED THE CARPET OUT!!! hahaha

Water came from the rain that fell from the sky...

The drain holes are open because i still havent got the plugs for them. so when i was driving, water from underneath and the tires sprayed into the holes. Not a big deal, easy fix, just havent gone to the junk yard yet.

The Cowl drain gets clogged and water can come out of your floor heater vent with everything closed up. Common problem smartass.

its not the cowl drain, its the holes on the floor that are not sealed. if you look through the holes you see the ground. so when i was driving, water from the ground was flying up into the holes. I just have to get them plugged.

Does anybody know the difference in mpg from a 31" wheel to a 33" wheel conversion?

you mean tire? Difference in MPG isn't going to make much a difference to steer you away. It really depends on the tread. Go all the way or keep what you got. You can fit 33s easy with you BL and then keep the 33s after the SOA or susp. lift. But your looking at 200$ + per tire. Find a job first

Question, what did you do to the inside of the doors/liner? Did you just paint that or monstaliner that too? Mine look crappy and I'm considering painting them.

Did you end up painting the doors? curious how it turned out and if you in fact used the vinyl spray or monstalined it?

thinking about bedlining the front quarter panels, wheel wells and half doors black. Has anyone seen this done with a blue jeep and have pictures?

Hey, you have a nice islander there! Dont ruin the look by monstalining the outside. That navajo metallic is a neat color.

My 92 looked identical to that (with the family cage though) when i got it.

Heres how it looked when i sold it.

Thanks bud! Ive gotten a few compliments on the color but the problem is that there is deterioration of the paint in some areas and rust on the windshield. As much as i would like to keep it, i need to paint it to protect the body from any future damage.

What kind of suspension did you put on your 92? I wish i had a family roll cage. been looking for one on craigslist ever since i bought the jeep.

I ran it with a 3.5" lift on 33's for years, but in the picture, its SOA on stock height springs.

Youre near philly? Up here in Northeast PA, there's a guy thats been dealing with CJ's and Wrangler's for about as long as the earth has existed. I bet he'd be able to sell you a stock family cage. Let me know, i'll get you his phone number.

Oh! Paint.

If you want to keep the color, and are capable of spraying on your own, check out Touch Up Paint from PaintScratch.com. You can get just about any factory paint ever made thought them. They even sell it in rattle-cans. Ive never had the occasion to buy from them but ive been referred there in the past.

Nice YJ & nice build so far. Looks like the paint on it is still in good shape from the pics. I hate to hear it's starting to go South on you. I always liked the metallic Blue on the Islanders. But, your right, better get something on there to keep the rust at bay.

Have you considered a re-paint? Jeeps are fairly easy to paint. I'm not sure on your background, but with a little practice & effort, you could lay down a nice shade tree paint job on it.

If the OP ever plans on following his brother and me anywhere he might as well kiss that paint goodbye. Out here in the east most trails are thick and destroy paint quick.

I drug my islander though of plenty of PA back woods trails and managed to keep it looking decent.

Then they ain't the same type of trails I am talking about. Even my buddy with a 2012 jk is counting the months until he bedlines it. We hit some horrible crap around here.

I should also mention, I have been bedlined for over a year, even I have marks I can't clean off, but no scrapes make it through to the metal. It's not about not getting scratches, more like how often do you want to have to fix it.

Laurel bushes man... the stuff of nightmares. :P

Im not telling you that youre wrong.

I just hate to see that paint get replaced with bedliner. its unique. you dont see a ton of islanders with the navajo metallic turquoise, theyre mostly that smurf blue that was popular pre 91. Its a cool color and trim package combo. Yes, thats all unimportant when youre building a trail rig, but its till something that stands out, and on a 23 year old jeep, its cool.

Im not talking brush and bushes, I am talking trees and logs. You know the stuff that you worry about body damage, not scratches. What we hit is more like the crap people trailer rigs to so they can make it home. If he wants to keep that paint job, then he better make it a mall crawler, or find other people to hit trails with. But he already knows that since he has been out and seen his brothers paint destroyed, as well as mine take some beatings.

Also, Monstaliner makes Smurf Blue. Redoing the Islander theme in bedliner might look pretty nice.

Progress with the jeep today. Removed the fenders and running board. Grinded everything down, sanded and bedlined the grille, front quarter panels, across the bottom of the body, the half doors, and inside the wheel wells and inside the door threshold.

I plan on changing the front orange lights or putting the film or spray to make them darker. I also want to get chrome bolts and nuts and insert them into the holes along the body where the fenders used to be. That way they pop and i dont get water in the jeep.

Give me some feedback for improvements and things to do next.

Looks good to me man. What bedliner are you using? It turned out real nice.

One sure fire way to clean it up a little more would be to find the center caps for those 5 stars if you plan on keeping them. They look to be in good shape from the pics.

Thanks man!

Its Rustoleum truck bedliner. Its a longer can than regular spray paint cans and you can find them at home depot or lowes. The only problem i am having is that whenever i hop out of the jeep, the bedliner sticks to my pants. Might have to spray clear coat and make it smooth.

I also have problems with drying the berliner when i wash the jeep because the microfiber towels stick to it.

I will definitely keep that in mind when i get to doing the wheels. For now, im going to paint the wheels black. I might actually just go up to 33" tires and get completely new wheels. but thats not going to be for a while.

Got some new bolts, washers and nuts for the fender holes along the bottom of the body. The other holes are filled now by left over bolts because the holes have threads.

I think it looks good because each one stands out but i might paint them all with bedliner. What do you guys think?
