Hello WF. I've been recently inactive on this board. Still see some familiar faces though and that's nice. I just got caught up in life mostly and due to employment change was forced to sell a jeep build.:banghead:
Sunday morning my Grandfather who turned 100 in May passed away. We were not close. In fact my father made sure my sister and I had little to do with him. My father passed away some time ago but before he did he forgave his father for a lifetime of abuse. It's sad really...My kids never got to know either my Dad or my Grandpa.
Well enough of the sad story. My uncle, cousin and I have been cleaning out all the barns and sheds in preparation for an estate sale. That's when I came across this beauty. She is a 40's Chevy 5 ton or 10 ton. It's longer than it appears so I'm leaning towards 10.
While I would rather just trailer it and bring her home I can't. Make no mistake...This will be in my possession this fall. When it does...crazy ratrod truck build will commence.(I still have the motor from my Jeep build):whistling:
I have a friend in Mozurrii who is building a Dodge COE, he used a donor Engine and running gear from a Chevalay Camper of somekind.... It worked well, he's got a running roller, and is working on the bed...
I kinda like Caddy Engines, sick of SB/BB Chevalays in everything..... Talk about boring.
Yup, it's not mine, but if it was, I'd have a nice 472 or 500 Caddy and Turbo 400 in that
truck !! I used a 62 Caddy 390 and JetAway Hydro in my T-Bucket project..
I like "Different".... Good Luck on that project !! "BH"
Snagged some 2x12's from the BIL. Going to make a beam across my shed to aide in lifting the cab. Going to work on that tomorrow and finish up cutting odds and ends from the truck to free up the cab.
Also got my juice from work. Our chemist whipped me up a batch of good stuff.
A tough cleaner/degreaser "Complex Blue" I'll use this to deep clean the truck.
Then Big Don will get a good scrubbing with L-543. This is an acid descaler that will remove rust but not harm painted surfaces.
After the rust is all gone I need to neutralize the acid with another wash. Cascade is very alkaline and works well.
Then I'll rub him down with L-3932N. This is a water based long term rust inhibitor. This at 100% will keep the bare metal ready for paint for several weeks.
This is a whole lot cheaper than media blasting. But since I'm keeping the paint that was never really an option.
Though I love Jeeps, mid-century modern is my favorite societal design style by a country mile, and it looks like you're gonna do a phenomenal job. Subscribed for sure.
Disk brakes on a DRW Dana 70 in 1969? I would think think that has been converted to disks at some point, right? If that is factory, I might have to look into that for my tow rig.
