Opinions on painting the applique

I am pretty much writing this asking for opinions regarding painting the applique on my 08 JK Wrangler 2dr. It came with a silver applique, but I'm thinking about removing it to test out how the rustoleum bed liner looks on it along with my painting skills before I work up the courage for the windshield brackets. If it looks good I'll just put it back on. Has anybody done this? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Can't it just be tanking off to reveal just the black bumper?

Yeah, it can...more or less, this is a gauge to see how the windshield brackets would look painted. If it looks good, I'll put the applique back on, if not, I'll just leave it off. I just was curious if anybody had done this.
