Home Made Tube Doors (Part 1) - JK-Forum.com - The Ultimate Jeep JK Wrangler Bulletin Board

on page 3 someone mentioned how they used a gate latch for the door latch.

I am working on some junkyard tube doors, that I saw over on jeepforum.
A guy over there found some Chevy blazer tire carriers, that are shaped somewhat like a jeep half door.

I grabbed two from my local U-pull-it, & someone on yet another board found these lil dudes;
Locking Bear Claw Latch Set - Mini

I had a set arrive here two days ago. They won't fit the stock YJ strikers, & I ended up using bolts that fit instead.

Here is a link to my (In Progress) build. I have more pics from yesterday's fit up session, that I will post tomorrow. Still need to upload to photobucket.

Here is another link, of preacher's build. He designed these himself, for his JK;

yea thats what my TJ has. i have the bolts welded to a flat plate so i can swap out the whole striker assembly. its near impossible to get a quality/rattle free fit unless you use factory jeep latches or do something like this.

I haven't had time to upload photobucket, but I have my latches bolted inside some light angle iron. These will get welded to the door frames.

I've been busy with my OBA build, as I need to get that squared away before tackling the on board weldenator I'm doing. After that I'll have a welder to make the tube doors.

The house I'm in only has a 60 amp service, so I cant run my buzz box.

My huge copy of a Leece-Neville alternator, is a 220 amp unit. When i get the A.C. tap connected I could run my house with that kind of juice.

I'm taking pics of all this stuff & will post them in a few weeks after I'm done all the wrenching.

Here is a set I made a few years ago. I use the Mini Bear claw latches and machine the aluminum hinges.

We ended up scaping the Skin idea Mike is holding up and just left it open.

I like that skin up front,I was thinking some kind of expanded metal or screen type protection on bottom also to keep rocks and other debris out.

Update; got Weldzilla working well, & did the tube doors Friday night & Saturday morning.

They came out really nice & work well. Just need to mount the latch release levers & some door limiting straps, so I don't knock the relocated mirrors off.

I don't Care to much for the tube doors. I would make or find some nice half doors. because they are like the same thing.
