Id hate to go through all the body work and have the paint not work for some reason. My body guy has been in business for 35 years so I use what he recommends, and buy it at his cost. My dually will be HOK, this one is DuPont.

The bird? Well thats up to Paul really....I want it from 20+ feet away to look traditional, but up close I want wild and detailed like he can do.

I shoot DuPont. I've tried PPG,Keystone and some other brands. I had no problem shooting any of them. Small adjustments and your fine. But what I have found is the cheaper paint never seams to be as durable.

I painted my Chevy with PPG, just to give it a try. Very simple paint to shoot. My kids could shoot it and the only thing they paint are there finger nails. I painted the work service truck with DuPont the same week. The front of my Chevy is all pitted from rocks kicking up and salt over the winters. The front of the service truck looks Brand new.

I'm not looking for a discussion here about paint, my point is you get what you pay for. It all looks good at first, but will it last.

Think of it this way......You can buy a cheaper beer, "but does it taste good". The cans the same.

You may have spent allot of money for the paint but in the long run I think it was a good choice.

Now if your going to sell it in six months....What was you thinking....LMAO

Way back when I was a professional painter at our bodyshop, we shot DuPont exclusively. The owner had a deal with DuPont and we had their complete mixing rack and computer system for mixing colors on-site. I was always happy with their products. I agree, they tend to run on the pricier side, but quality paint always does. Ultimately, a LOT depends on the prep, and quality prep will make even sub-par paints look pretty decent (for a while) at a distance. I'm really looking forward to seeing this project come to a close, but I don't really want to see it end. I have to live vicariously through another man's Jeep, I won't lie. I've got too many irons in the fire to do much work to mine at the moment.

when i was at Votech i sprayed Akzo Nobel Sikkens and i loved that paint. it laid out so nice and was easy to spray. At Wyotech i used PPG i hated that stuff, i could never get it to lay out right. I also had good luck with NAPAs Martin Senior line

I have a couple of air brush guns. I'll fly out this Friday and paint the bird on the hood. With a case of beer and bad lighting I might have a small chance of it resembling a bird. Ya never know.

I might be one level up on you. I can get the paint out of the gun. I just can't do anything constructive with it. Now on the other hand my brother is very good. That's were I got my guns. He has some of his work in air brush magazines. But some how that gene skipped me. I can't draw a straight line with a ruler, never mind paint one.
I'd love to have him do some work on my jeep. Problem is he lives in Minnesota, that's 1600 miles away from me. At 16MPG on the highway I think I'll pass.

I like that idea. You could paint the smiley face red, put the beak on it and we would call it the Angry Bird Jeep...........

I ran down there and snapped a couple of pics before it was basecoated on saturday. Yesterday I worked on my side bars some more. I decided to weld the mounting bolts instead of having them show like everyone else does.

I like the idea of no bolt heads. Did you tap the holes for a little more strength, or just put them below flush and burn it in?

I didnt tap the holes, I set the studs in the hole about a 1/8" so it wouldn't be a flush to flush weld.

When you mount the side guards, do you put anything between them and the body? I just don't want to trap water.

They will be monstalined so that wont be an issue. I ran some on my crawler about 10 years ago of this same design and I just spray bombed them and they are still on it and haven't caused any problems yet.

Didn't the Golden Eagles and Renegades of that era have stripes down the side of the body below the door? Are you going to do something like that, or maybe not since you have the sliders? Looking great BTW.
