x2.

I've though of getting a round headlight TJ and converting it to square headlights but never the other way around.

But to each their own so here are a few ideas...
1) find a TJ or CJ grill and fit it to the jeep. it will require quite a bit of fab work because the fenders and hood aren't going to just all line up with the different grill.
2) find a TJ or CJ grill and cut out the headlight housings and weld them into your grill. You'll have to be quite good at body work to pull this one off properly not to mention the slough of tools required.
3) Find a TJ or CJ front end(grill, hood, fenders) and fit them to the jeep. This option should yield the least amount of fabrication and adjustments and should yield the best looking results. A TJ front end, I think, would fit the best and might look like a factory fit. The CJ front end might require some adjustments but I don't know. I think there might be a difference in the width of the tub but again I'm not sure as I've never touched a CJ before.

Actually, while I was an active member of the Cherokee Forum I remember a guy that fabricated a new front end for an XJ that had CJ Lights. I really didn't like the look of it but he did a really good job

^Yeah, the YJ guys get their panties in a bunch when you talk smack about square headlights or leaf springs. Even the slightest hint of disrespect towards Wrangler (v)1 = flame bait.

That said, get some round headlights! Wait until after the spring coil conversion tho...

if u really wanted to do it. you could get a fiberglass grill from quadratec, the one that doesnt have the head lights cut out, and cut out round ones. or octagon ones or triangles, or any other shape you could imagine

JP magazine just did a write up on it not too long ago. Check out jpmagazine.com
You may be able to look up the projects they have done. I'm not sure. Never been on the site myself.

so here is my dilema I love the wider wheel base the yj gave over the cj and simple dash compared to the tj but my wife hates the square lights (I love them) Would I be horrible for doing this to appease my wife?

The proper word is: emasculated.

But in all seriousness - if changing the front lights would be all I had to do to stop the constant high pitched noise coming out from my wife on all things jeep-related I would be already driving around with round headlights.

Ok i'll dive in and get shot for this one but is that all that's required for the cj swap? Ive always been a cj guy but I like the interior or the yj better. I have a yj that I snagged on a great deal but I do miss my round eyes...

I think there is a difference in the length of the hoods. I think the yj hood is longer therefore the grill mounting for the cj will need to be fabricated. Then paint for all parts swapped.

To me the height on the cj grill seems taller so that is the confusing part to me and I'm rocking the white rustoleum look so that'll be about $10 out of pocket for a paint job lol... I would just like to see what all it took so I can scope out Craigslist or the Jeep farm that about 2 hours away, that way I dont have to make a second trip.
