Has anybody taken there seat out and fabricated a spare tire mount back there. I was thinking I could use the factory tailgate mount and fab up 2 rails and attach those to the floor board, then the mount to the rails sounds kinda simple but does anybody foresee any issues?
Got mine off of the gate and on swing out carrier-but I like the idea of mounting inside assuming you don't need the room. Would make major issues for me and hauling anything, and using my jeep the way I do. If you are out on the trail where will you keep your tools spare parts and recovery gear? Understand may not need a lot -but it depends on where you are headed.
As far as you mounting idea-SOUNDS real good-just (obviously) make sire it is mounted rigidly could get ugly 33 inch tire starts flying around with you inside!!! and watch out for gas tank if mounting through the floor-(I know but now it's been said)
yeah agreed JP. I would only do it when offroading, nothing permanent. Although I normally have the seat out. I fabbed a piece of plywood and covered it in camo burlap. Then screwed it into the fenderwell, it gives me a shelf to put my golf clubs on and I can still utilize the space underneath.
So...I could just mount the tire to that as well that way nothing is drilled into the floorboard of the jeep.
I took mine off the tailgate when i went to 33s. But I have an LJ so there was more room in the tub. I just leaned it against the tool box and strapped it down.
Harbor Freight. Less than $200. And it has a rubber gasket in the lid to keep it very waterproof inside. And it's aluminum so it's light weight. (Like I haven't already added about 1000 pounds to my Jeep in armor anyway.)
I have a smaller diamond plated tool box I got from Tractor Supply. I was looking for a bigger one like yours. Then again I'd have to buy alot of tools then...lol
Gave up on it. It sits in my garage or on my trailer. 41" just ain't gonna work back there
