I was wandering around lowes the other day and came across this rustoleum ( I think!) spray on bed liner in like a spray paint can. What i would like to use it for is my bumpers and inside of the wheel wells... Just wondering if anyone has any experience with it and the quality of it. (i don't expect awesome results but it's a vary cheap alternative to anything else). Can't get away from thinking about little tweaks for my jeep!
I used it on my grill ( check my profile for pic). It sprays well and it has a sandy rough texture. The key is just good prep work. But overall im happy with it and im gonna use it again on the raised part of my hood.
Yea i was happy for the price thats for sure. And i think it will take some abuse too plus its easy to touch up. Goodluck! Post up some pics when ur done.
Will do! I work out of town and I'm waiting on a front bumper from a friend who is currently in Thailand! So it will be a few weeks before i get into it but i will once I'm done!
one of my friends who is also on here used it for a ton of stuff on his yj including bumpers his wheels, it looks awesome and has a good rough texture, gonna be gettin some soon to do a few things for mine as well
Yeah I used it. It's not too bad at all not nearly as thick or durable and a rhino line but definately cheaper I used it for the inside of my jeep, wheel wells, and headlight bezels. It help up on the wheel wells till I went in deep mud and was power washing for 25 minutes. The color stayed but the texture kinda went away. So I resprayed for texture haha
I pulled the carpet out of my TJ last fall. Prepped and sprayed the whole tub, roll bars and both bumpers with the rustoleum t.b. liner. Has held up very well between throwing fire gear in the back, the kids and the dogs. I just prepped real good before spraying in on.
I used Duplicolor rattlecan bedliner on my Jeep's interior a few years back and it's still doing well. I may even have a Rustoleum brand on there too.
Just a couple of days ago I did my grill and metal fenders.
I love this stuff.
i used the duplicolor on my fender flares, only put 1 coat on each fender flare it after sprayin it off at the car wash when it was real muddy the liner peeled off, gonna re do it with the rustoleum soon and put like 5 coats on there this time haha
I took the headlight bezels out today. Scuffed, cleaned and primed them before painting them with Rustoleum truck bed liner rattle can. Turned out good. Much better than the chrome ones I think.
Let me know how the truck bed liner holds up on the fenders. I was thinking of painting mine with it and going along the bottom of the doors and up around the back and stooping at the tailgate. Just not sure how well it will hold up or how all the mud will wash off.
Well I knew this forum was going to be dangerous took fender flares off and painted them with a product called herculiner now I'm setting in the shop impatiently waiting on them to dry
Ok finally should have time to tackle spraying the bumpers this weekend. (working out of town sucks!) other than a good sanding, anybody have any othe suggestions for prep work?!
I'm the one Wrangler06 was talking about who used the Rustoleum on the wheels, bumpers, and soon a couple coats on my flares and other accents on the Jeep. I originally used Duplicolor but it didn't hold up to my expectations except on the hood. I found the trick is a good sanding for your prep then take a damp cloth and wipe away all the dust before spraying. and when you do get to spraying make sure to hold the can back pretty far and just give it a light coating. If it gets too thick then it dries smooth. That is my complaint about the duplicolor. However I found it for 5 bucks a can today at Harbor Freight. Rustoleum is perfect in my opinion. Better spray nozzle that works at any angle even upside down, better texture, and doesn't matter where you hold the can it always dries with a nice texture.
When I did the whole tub.. Multiple coats about 3 1/2-4. Used my leftovers on headlight bezels. Then bought 1 more can and did thin coat under fenders and did glove box.
I used rusto plastic paint to do my plastic interior so far holding up good!
I did the same thing with the rustoleum t.b. liner in my tub. Its help up well.just clean clean clean before you spray. Scuff the clear coat as well. I used TSP from Lowes to wipe the tub down with. Then alloy the coats. I dud the roll bars as well and its held up great and no fading so far. Good luck.
i am not a fan of the rustoleum spray on liner. i used it on my rock sliders, and was not impressed. personally, i like the texture and quality of the roll on bed liners. i used rustoleum's roll in bed liner on my cj's original body tub; it was ok for the $$ but i didn't like the texture and the quality left a lot to be desired. i used herculiner on my tj tub and LOVE it. i am going to do my cj's "new" tub this spring. i plan on using herculiner, but am also batting around the idea of the duplicolor roll on liner. the spray on stuff is ok, but prep work (like any paint, liner, etc,) is crucial.
