The plop project

I got my YJ mid June. It had a bit of cancer, getting to the point where it would be a long road to recovery.

Its a 93 YJ sahara edition
4.0L Stick 151,000 on the whole thing and 49,000 on rebuilt.
I got it for dirt cheap and had a ton of rust, but I have 90% of it fixed now.

Plans are/were to fix the body
A lift, I have been contemplating a SOA on full widths and maybe 2.5" lift leafs. I am fairly sure that is the route I am going.

What it sarted as:

The hood, doors, and tailgate are/ are going to be black. The hinges are going to be spray on bedliner.
The hood is a two tone Black with the center grey that matchs teh rest of the body.

The current result pics.

Its not perfect, I dont intend for it to be a show Jeep. I just want it to look nice and wheel it.

kinda went hog wild on the pics but that is the progress of the Jeep over three months.

Thanks, I spent a weeks vacation on the thing. Took a vaca from work and put 50+ hours of work in it in 5 days. only a few little things left to do to the body.

Mechanically it runs great, it has 49,000 on a rebuilt. The only thing I have to do is a rear main seal and do my fuel sending unit, I jerry rigged the old one with mighty puddy (only on teh elbows because it had pin-hole leaks from rusting).

I used a Lincoln welder ran off of 110. I wish I could have used my brothers Miller that ran off of 220, that one works like a dream.

Seems like it sat in a big pile of salt for its life. I am the third owner of it and I was told the original owner never washed it other than getting rained on. That was pretty believable.

I didnt think the rust was as bad as it was when it had everything still on it. I started to see how gone it was when I pulled the flares off of it.

Nice work!

Please take a few minutes & check around the frame rails by tapping on them with a ball peen hammer. Pay extra attention to the rear rails behind the rear axle humps in the frame.

I checked the whole frame and everything seemed solid, just looks a little flaky. Need to give it a clean up and paint it.

I wanted to give it a different paint job, so that is why I did the two tone Black Hood with grey, and black doors n' tailgate. I think it looks good.

I dont know about that, the quality of the work isnt terrific and not as smooth as I would want it to be. But thanks. I just want it to make it a few years, then I want to do a new tub, and fiberglass fenders, fiberglass windshield frame, CJ tailgate, a new hood, fiberglass grille.

In the near future, I am going to get fully soft doors, and loose the half hard doors, and get a set of full hard doors for winter.

Looks great man. You sure are taken on a big project (50 hours in 5 days...just, wow) but it deffinatley looks like you got it all worked out. When your finished I bet no one will even be able to tell it had rust holes in it. I know the tub sure doesnt look like it ever had cancer.

I need to hurry up and get some new hinges, most likely going with the stainless.

And another thing is that I am working out a trade, my explorer for a 95 YJ on 4" of lift and 33's and is a 4cyl. Assuming everything goes well, I am going to swap all the lift on the 93 (current project) and use the other one as stock for school since 4 cyl should get better MPG.
