Jason, great work! Your garage fabrication skills are impressive!

I am seriously considering cutting my TJ and stretching it to fit an LJ top like you did. The rectangular tube material that you used to splice in the frame, did you use any particular steel grade? I have seen somebody else do a TJ-6 with pieces of frame from a wrecked TJ. Plus, I think AEV uses OEM frame sections (Something about keeping the flex rates similar, although with that much stiffening I think this becomes a moot point). I think you are the first person to make this work with a stock steel shape.

My frame splices came out thicker than stock. I made them so they would slide inside the existing frame then plug welded. Getting the frame cut and stretched (and straight) was not that hard at all. I thought it would, but is was just stressful not hard. Good luck and do it! My jeep is so much more practical for my needs now. If you have questions feel free to call me or Mike at MCE.

Want to buy a LJ Hard Top for $ or I am willing to trade my soft top and $. I can also get parts for other possible trade options if requested. I got some plans for the TJ-6 while the new tooling for our fenders is being made….. I am in WA.
Thanks,
Jason

If I have the money, I might come to you to stretch my LJ, to make it an LJ-6, with 15 inches (make it 20 inches?) additional length in the wheelbase AND body, upgrade the motor to a V-8 for more pulling power for a larger trailer, and maybe even swap out to a manual transmission just because I like them.

I moved the seat back splitting the added 15” up, added 5” in front of seat and 10” behind.
Wile 15” does not sound like much it is significant. I can now fit 4 full sized people, gear and a cooler. It really has worked out well for family 4x4 trips and extended backwoods adventures.

Thanks for the complements

Looks good Jason.
Am I going to be seeing you in Hollister?
If so, you should bring this for the magazine guys to notice.

I just picked up a back half from an LJ and an LJ soft top, will be doing this in the fall after some more wheeling this summer. Had a couple of questions, first I noticed there is a support between the outer sheetmetal and inner tub just behind the wheel opening, and I think it would have to be removed for the stretch, what exactly did you do? Do you still find the longer wheelbase OK, or would you have preferred a 10" wheelbase and a 5" overhang increase instead? (guessing from your posts you still like the short overhang, but...) Do you ever find the increased wheelbase to be a problem?

The TJ-6 is up for sale. I never thought I would sell this jeep, but I am a builder not a collector. I will be taking a loss on it, this is fine with me if it goes to the right home. If you are interested I am taking offers at modernclassicent@gmail.com.
It is time to build again……….
Thanks,
Jason Robson

I have wheeled it from Moab to the very tight timber of WA. I love the wheel base. I would do it all the same again! I would consider adding 2” more by pushing the front axle out. It also is very nice to drive and pull a trailer with. Good Luck!!!!!

Sorry for not being around much! I miss the free time that I had 3 years ago! Mike and I have been crazy busy. I will be posting up more starting todayJ The jeep has had some progress over the last 8 weeks in preparation for EJS. It got a Clayton long arm installed and seems to work very well. We did the install for a TV show PNW Customs! https://www.facebook.com/mce.jason?r...ustoms?fref=ts
I also am installing some ARB’s, rebuilding the t-case, reworking the wheels. Pictures will be up soon.
On a personal note, I am in need of new left and right knees and having a hard time with the clutch. I have an AW4 that I will be installing after the EJS/ rear TJ, YJ, CJ mold builds. I am planning on setting it up with no TCM (manual shift). Baja
So things are happening and I really appreciate the support from all of you!
Feel free to check us out on Facebook too, I go by MCE JasonJ https://www.facebook.com/mce.jason?r...mn#!/mce.jason (We are involved in a ARB JK build for EJS this year……. )

Got to get the TJ-6 (a 98 TJ that was cut and stretched 15”) ready for the TJ REAR fender marketing campaign. Getting a AW4 auto, going through the 231, pulling the rear Detroit and installing an ARB.

In 03 AEV did a run of 5 long wheel base TJs. My buddy almost bought this one recently but someone beat him to it. It was really beatiful in person and had about 4 or 5 extra inches than the LJ. The custom buckets seats, front and rear were amazing and tons of room behind the rear seats.
These pics were taken when we were looking at it...

Love this build by the way. It does look more like a shorter CJ6 whereas the LJ looks like a cross between a CJ6 and a CJ8. Love this look and the LJs equally.
