Wanting to swap to a small block in my yj...

Anyone know if a AX-5 transmission will bolt up to a small block or if there's an adaptor to do so?

I think advance adapter makes one but the transmission would not last.

Is there any combination as far as motor and tranny that will bolt right up? We kind of want to stay away from modifying as much as possible... May be to where we have to do some things but just trying to get a general idea..

I don't know of any sb bolting right up. I see your new and Welcome.

Just do research on here, there are many great build threads about doing this. I'm currently putting a sbc in my YJ. Check out my build thread and ask any question you have.

The 5.9L 360 out of a older modle Dodge truck 1966-06 will work great and you can use the trans and transfercase to 96-06...

Seeing as Chrysler makes Dodge and Jeep this would be the best way to go and it all bolt together with no adapters :-)

The SM465 will work with Chevy small block. You will need an adaptor for you transfer case depending what your using.

There a ton of options. Some are easier than others. No matter what swap you do, you'll have to modify everything. There is no getting around this. You'll need to modify wiring, motor mounts, cooling, driveshafts, transfer case mounts. Good luck.

Yea I kind of figured there was no easy way out.. This site is helpful tho.. I like all the different stuff going on.. Guess we're gonna shop around and figure out what's out there.. Meanwhile I'll put around in the 4 banger... Do have a 406 smc with gas ported CP pistons, its been hard blocked and a fogger on it.. Hahaa, would be sick, but a little much for the jeep..

Have you had any tranny problems since the 5.3?

I have a TBI 350 in my YJ, with an SM465, with an adaptor to a D300 twin stick T case. Solid setup.

Thread is in my signature.

I would recommend buying a quality set of motor mounts from MORE or NOVAK, but do some research on the ones people recommend. Advance Adapters has a nice cradle mount too.

The douche that originally put in the mount perches in my jeep did a crap job, and it has caused me all kinds of issues.

I have a 4.3 Vortec with an NV3550 in my 89YJ. Used a Novac adapter plate. There are tons of options as to how to do this. My best advice is to carefully think each step thru and make a list of everything that you will need. Then, you will still find things that you didnt think of when you start to do your build.

Thanks for the help. Took your advice and slowly but surely we're getting parts here and there. Can't get over the parts they make and sell for these jeeps. Crazyness! Thanks again tho!
