What is the difference of the mustang 8.8 and the explorer 8.8?

Wats the difference of the mustang 8.8 and the explorer 8.8? I know the spline is different but performance wise wats the difference? I'm suposed to get an explorer 8.8. Wat if I get a mustang 8.8?
Can I just install a 8.8 of a mustang??? I'm ganna changer the gears to 4.10 to match my front. Pls help me..

The more splines the more strength. You want the explorer axle as the mustang axles are a bit narrower and the tubes are not as strong.

Hold out for a 4.10 8.8 and save yourself the money. Theres plenty out there.

All explorers from 91-95 will work they are just drum brakes, 96-2000 are disc brakes.

I can get the gears for cheap.. The thing is that I have a 2010 8.8 mustang diff could I just install that? And is it better than my stock d35?

Does any one know wats the width difference on a 2010 mustang 8.8 diff and an 95-98 explorer 8.8 diff?

If you have it already, why not just measure it?
Exploders are 59.5 wms-wms.

if your 2010 mustang axle is from a v8 it should have 31 splines...

The 2010 8.8 diff is 28 spline could I just install that and is it ganna be better than my d35?

You should really wait and do it once. Sell it and buy another 8.8 wuth 31 spline axles.

I'm not too sure but I was told today that I can just change the carrier and the axel shafts to a 31 spline??? Wat u think?

Whats the tube thickness of the mustang axle compared to the explorer at .250 ? Im sure you can upgrade to bigger splines but that will probably cost more than a good condition used explorer 8.8.
