few days ago I was about to purchase the 1/4 inch fabtech steering box skid on 4wd, had my credit card number in and was double checking my order when i decided to make my own skids. After that i ran outside with a flashlight, masking tape, cardboard from my garage and a knife i made a mockup of what it should look like so i know it would fit before i decide to start cutting material.

Finished the mockup:

Got some scrap 3/16th inconel 718 at work, and made a second cardboard mock-up saturday night in the light and changed it up from my previous design. I just modeled it up in Autodesk inventor.

Had some big progress on tuesday, i cut the inconel with the plasma cutter and ground it flat, rounded the corners and tacked the pieces in place.

Cut up and ready for tacking:

It ended up fitting perfectly the first time. At this point i still had to drill 2 more holes in it to mount it to the bumper and finish welding.

Tonight i finished welding the inside, drilling the two holes, grinding the edges round, and sandblasting it to prep for painting.

Got a little dirty after the sandblasting lol

Today i finally had enough time to paint the skid and drill the holes in the bumper. A buddy of mine recommended hammered grey paint so i checked it out online first and bought some at Home Depot today, as well as some stainless steel hardware. the paint has a pretty cool color effect that i like alot.

Did 6 or 7 coats earlier today and still waiting for it to fully dry. Heres some pics after its finished being painted...

Ill have more pics when its on tomorrow

Ok, so i got a little side tracked after class and went to work and worked on welding up my sway bar quick discos and a few other things for around the house, so i am only able to post up some skid plate dimensions up now.
I measured the skid plate after it was on the jeep so some dimensions might not work out.

First is the dimensions for each individual piece:

This is the welding assembly. make sure you tack it to make sure everything fits before you completely weld it. Each piece should be placed and tacked like this:

Let me know if the dimensions dont work. thanks!
