Your own wheel?

Just wondering if anybody has ever thought about or built their own pirate ship steering wheel like this?

My uncle had one in his van... Of course, that was 1970 something. He had orange shag carpet and dark plywood paneling too.

i don't think that would be possible. the wheel would have to be really small in order to accommodate the the handle thingies. if you really want to you might be able to cut off the bottom 'handles" but that might ruin the structural integrity of the wheel.

Why would you want to build one, there a dime-a-dozen down here in florida. I know of a boat ware house that has hundreds of them. In all kinds of conditions. The last time i looked i believe he was asking 35-65 each.
