hard to shift gears 2000 tj sport

hey!everyone, iv'e been teaching my wife and son how to drive standard finally after a month and a half there getting it. my problam is when shifting from first to second gear seams like there alot of play. the jeep bounces everywhere and have to push the clutch back in or else i think the ujoints are going to blow and going to lose the driveshaft. im able to ride the clutch and not make it bounce like that but they can't and im scared there going to breake my jeep and get stranded. the ujoints are tight so i think there ok.i just don't know what else it could be. could it just be a clutch ajustment? oh! and its a little harder to shift the gears also. maybe the clutch is burnt? what do you think it is? thanks.

I have had my 2000 wrangler sport for 6 mos. it came with a rough shift 2nd gear is a picky bitch that needs to be tickled and wiggled down from 3rd, 1st is like park it's useless for anything else besides, I've had to ride the clutch and use the brake more than I would like to, but I'm trying to be gentle with it for the next two years, then I can teach my son and hubby to drive a standard. I've been told it could be the synchronizing mesh, and that they can do a tranny cleaning tune up that may help.

I have a 2000 TJ sport with a 5 speed manual shift. The only issue I have is when the weather is 25 C or below I have a jump out of second gear and difficulty getting it back in smoothly until the vehicle warms up. Otherwise the shift is smooth and trouble free in warm weather. I have owned it for a year and the previous owner had replaced the gear box for a slow leak. Can't comment on whether a newbie on the stick would make a difference as to the level of skill in shifting.

Hi friends!!!! I have a 95 yj and I love it!!!! I also have trouble shifting.... It's hard to put it into first gear and every gear grinds except 5th.... What are some possibilities to what my problem could possibly be? Thanks for your time and attention to this "sticky" matter
