Laws for going doorless

I live in British Columbia Canada and was told you could drive with out doors and even seen a few jeeps going doorless. So I decided to take mine off, but got a verbal warning from police that I need to have at least the half doors and side mirrors. I was gonna look into getting mirrors that would mount with out doors but no point now. Is this the law everywhere or is it different where you live.

The law in BC is, if it came with doors....it has to have doors. As far as mirrors go, you need a rear view and a drivers side mirror. Passenger mirror is optional. lots of people go door-less without incident though. I plan on running door free this summer!!!

Attached an old bulletin regarding driving doorkess in BC. You got lucky some people have been issued vehicle inspection orders for running doorless. Luck of the draw really I know some people that have gone through road blocks without it even being mentioned, although it is illegal here in BC. It is a provincial law that differs from province to province. We need to start a petition to get an exception for Jeep Wranglers!

I was at the skate park with my daughter and a cop car drove by and seen it. He was really good about it though. Said most people don't know but that I had to put them on.

BTW...Nice pink Jeep! Just sayin!

When you say you don't need stinken doors, I expected not to see any doors. Hence why I got a good chuckle.

Oh well.

Wow, nice to see the Forum Protocol Police in action. Sorry if I caused you any great stress or confusion. Not often you find 2 DB's in the same post. You two ladies have a nice day!

Found this on a police forum:

Quote:
Here in BC, Canada, you must have doors installed on a vehicle if it came from the factory that way. Early 1970's was the last time Jeep offered doors as an option. If is has hinges or striker posts, expect to get a ticket from me. Unsafe. Want wind on your thighs...ride a motorcycle like I do.
Ya, cause getting in an accident on a motorcycle is MUCH safer!

Just a jealous cop that probably drive a lame ass Harley. .

We have a local cop who is the same way towards bikes, specifically sports bikes. Harass' them all summer like he is on a mission to save the world.

I've run into many cops over the years who are no more than little tinplated dictatorial runts with a grudge against anyone who can do things that they are incapable of. Each one has amused in his own tiny little way. It takes all kinds but, karma always gets 'em in the end!

I'm from Ontario and want to drive out to BC. Since I'm insured and plated in Ontario can we ride door less? I get why BC has the law since insurance is government run through ICBC and has to pay losses and injuries from accidents. If I get into an accident my insurance pays the bill not BC government.

It's a BC law so no you can't. ICBC doesn't make or regulate the laws. BC RCMP will ticket you if you don't have at least half door and driver side mirror. Also depends on the cop if you get pulled over I guess

Same as if you get a speeding ticket in one province yet live in another. Still gotta pay it.

Vehicle compliance is based on where your vehicle is licensed & registered.
If your in compliance with your local laws your OK.
In Ontario it is illegal in most cases to drive an Ontario registered vehicle with only one license plate.
If you visit Ontario from a place that only issues one plate you don't get ticketed.
The local laws everyone must abide by are speed limits traffic directions ect.

in Manitoba it's legal to go doorless, just as the officer put it not the smartest thing to do.

This is the same response I got from an RCMP Officer when I asked about this.
