1994 2.5 won't rev!

I folks, I am a newb here so please tread lightly until I find my way around and thank you. My 1994 2.5 complete with rattling cat. all of a sudden won't rev up past 2500 rpm. When pushed it will go to 3000 but when you stomp on the throttle the tone changes like it is pukking on itself. It sounds like the exhaust is saying blaaaaaaaaaaaa! It has 46K Any ideas?

Sounds to me like the cat has collapsed or plugged itself up, a muffler shop can tell you 1 way or the other.

Cat colapse

Thanks for the cat idea but this cat rattles like a box of rocks and it just started to do this all of a sudden. I suppose the ceramic may have blown into the muffler. Thanks I'll check it out. Any thing else?

Found it!

Last night I cut off the pipe behind the cat and found the dog, just kidding! I cut the pipe and I can feel the remains of the ceramic in the converter rolling around like a 5# boulder. You can roll it around in there with your finger, so it's been bad for a long time. I assume it is actually the muffler that's plugged with converter parts that caused the power loss. So that case cracked, is there a place to buy a reasonable replacement converter?
