1995 Wrangler Sector Gear

The sector gear attached to the back of the tumblers on the ignition has warn down on my 1995 Jeep Wrangler - ordered the new gear and rack. There is a small shaft with teeth on the end that is inserted into the gear. The new part does not come with the shaft. Question is - how do you remove the small shaft that connects to the tumblers from the old sector gear and does it just snap into the new gear? Thanks for your help...
