2000 Wrangler interior lights issue

I'm new to the forum and I just bought a 2000 Wrangler (Used to own a 79 CJ5) and when I remove the doors the interior lights stay on. I've looked for a bypass switch to turn them off, but am unable to find one. It didn't come with an owners manual so I can't look there. Is there a clip or something available that will keep the switches pushed in when the doors are removed? Right now I just pulled the bulbs to keep them from running my battery down.

There is a fuse you can pull in the panel behind your glove box or under the hood, where ever your accessory pannel is. It should say something about "door switch defeat"

There are also kits available that will allow you to put a fused switch into this slot so you can turn them on and off at will

What have we got?

Welcome to the Forum

I know that you can order them through Chrysler but I am sure that you can download it as well. There was a thread on here about that recently. If I can find it I will post it here for you.

Oh and BTW, as mentioned above, you can pull the #4 fuse located behind the glovebox to disable the door switch for your lights. You will still be able to turn them on with the switch on your light stem or you can order a set of clips that will do the same.(quadratec, 4wheelparts)

I checked the site and they only have manuals for 04 and newer. I found a previous post about someone looking for an owners manual, but nobody was able help with a free download.

I pulled the fuse yesterday and it worked like a champ!

Thanks everyone for the help and for all of the welcomes!!

I wired in a cheap switch for when I remove the doors using an old female end from a flat four tow wire and a two dollar switch from Walley World, since the factory #4 fuse fits perfect into two of the holes on the flat four it will take about fifteen minutes to do! Much cheaper than the $39 dollar kits!
