2009 with 15.5k miles check engine lite

Never owned a Jeep of any model before but my daughter is getting into Forestry and will be driving into the woods, mountains, creeks, etc. and her Honda Civic just won't cut it! So, we're looking at Wranglers.

Looking at buying a 2009 with only 15.5k miles from a dealership. However, test drive showed the check engine lite was on. I assume it was the check engine lite....picture of the engine was lit up.

Service department said they noticed the battery was week when they tried to start it so they tested the battery and it showed low so they replaced it. Check engine lite went away.

I'm no mechanic by any means but this doesn't make sense for what little I know. The check engine lite doesn't usually come on for a low battery....or does it?

Any info would be helpful.

Because this is the newbie check-in area, you may not get the answers you are looking for. I suggest you check out this forum area and post your questions there, I think you'll get a better response.

The JK uses a can-bus electrical system that is very sensitive to voltage supply and draw. A low battery could be the cause of any number of faults

Thanks all. We bought the Jeep after they put a new battery in. I'm sure I'll be back out here often to learn more about the vehicle.

Thanks again!
