89 yj charging issues

hey there 4wheelin folks, just landed a 89 yj,6cyl,5 speed,runs exc,alt.guage in the red,have 1 battery wire connected to the alt,has a spot for 2 more wires (delco style)but no wires in the harness for a connection.had the alt.checked out and was told the diode is out in the alt. so do i ? the wiring or is this correct for a carberated jeep???
