After 20 years I'm back in a Jeep!!!

Members, I have been reading and learning from all of you over this past month. SO I've now decided to join and tell you about my new Jeep, Life and circumstances.

I'm a 36 year old Banker from Los Angles. 20 years ago for my 16th birthday my father bought me a brand new 94 Wrangler. It was a black hard top that I added tubular bumpers and a cheap Shackle lift and some swampers. . After that car I've owned a Honda Prelude, Chevy Tahoe z71, Audi a4, 3 Range Rovers, Mercedes E class, BMW 750, BMW M5. But all along Ive always caught myself staring at jeeps and admiring the people who drive them.

Finally, Last month I decided I don't need to drive a 100k bmw m5 and I decided to get rid of it to buy a Wrangler. My intention was to purchase one of the new Rubicon X Models and go crazy modifying it. After visiting a few dealers and realizing that the RUBI X unlimited is tough to get I walked into the original dealer that My dad purchased my original Wrangler from.

Out there in the LOT was this BLACK beauty.A slightly used 4800 miles 2013 Black Hard top Sahara unlimited with a 4 inch Rough Country Long Arm lift, New Shafts, sway bars, quick disconnects, XRC bumpers/ tire carrier, Smitty X20 8000 winch Rigid Dually lights on the A Pillars, Wheels changed to the 17 inch RUBI X black 17 inch wheels with 35X12.50 Toyo ATs. and new running gears in the diffs.

The car came equipped with Factory Leather, 430N, side airbags, and all the bells and Whistles.

I lifted the hood, It was spotless. Crawled underneath, Not a speck of dirt. And I know when its just a good detail job. This car had not seen any action other than a few trots around the city. Carpets were perfect. Not a scratch or a ding. I knew instantly what i found was a yuppie LA Jeep Mod that ended up never being used I calculated the mods at around $10,500. The dealer was asking 39,000 and they had reduced it from $40K So it was already a good deal.

After speaking with the salesman. I asked that he drive the jeep to my home 2 miles away the following morning so i can check to see if the height would work in my garage.

That next morning at 900 am he showed up and the Jeep cleared!! I was ecstatic. I sent the sales man away, I went upstairs had a sit down with the wife and explained how I'm selling the Bimmer but I need to buy the jeep first since its going to be sold quickly. She agreed.

I jumped in the car and drove to the dealer with a plan to purchase this slightly used 2013 for the same money I would buy a new one for. I calculated the cars sticker was around 39k. and I would pay 36 and change for a stock car with no miles.

I went in. Drove it again. took a deep breath and sat down to negotiate,

I started at 35k the manager immediately came out and tried to rough me up. I didn't like the attitude nor the tactic so i decided to save some time and just go to my final number, allow them to earn my business and walk out. I told the guy. Look, I don't want to waste any time. ill give you 36k for the truck. right now. after a few minutes and a dance with all the managers they brought me up $200 and I agreed to the deal.

Gentleman. I dove it home. Installed the car seat, and took my 2 year old boy for a ride up into dirt Mulholland. He ended up napping. but the time i got home the truck was covered in dirt and my wife shook her head at me in dis belief that i would do that to my new car. Considering my other cars were always kept immaculate.

This story is getting long SO I will Now tell you the mods that I'm doing to this truck. Mostly MYSELF. Pictures will be posted as soon as its done.

New Rims and tires. Decided the stock wheels with the 35's didn't have the right OFF set even with Spacers/ sold the ones that came on the truck for $1100 on Craigslist.

Welcome back, Shadi!

It's funny: there are quite a few prior or current BMW drivers on this forum. I just turned in a 328 for my 4th Wrangler. I really enjoyed the BMW, and it was always a car I wanted to have one day. When I finally finished medical school and started my first job as an attending, I leased it. But, like you, I always found myself looking at every Jeep that passed by, and I knew I'd be back when it was financially feasible. Now, instead of leasing, I financed (and for a monthly payment that is less…plus, no need for "premium" fuel).

I've learned that once you own 1 Wrangler, it usually isn't your last--even if it takes 20 years to come back! The only drawback I see: I've already spent over $2000 in Jeep toys, and I have only had it for 2 weeks!!

You're lucky (new Jeep at 16), I had to wait till I was 22 when I could afford my own new vehicle. Oh ya, Wranglers aren't trucks. Welcome back anyway and good luck !

welcome back, it took me 20 years to get over my last Jeep as well....

that isn't "dirt"......that's "essence of Jeep".....a combination of pheromones, trail dust, the Great Outdoors, and the Willys Big Grin

Awesome stuff, welcome aboard! I laughed a little to myself when you said you got a brand new '94 Wrangler! I got a '95 Wrangler when I was 16 (19 now) and I considered it old! Absolutely love it though and hope you love yours too!
