All Newbies (under 50 posts) PLEASE READ!!!

OK gang, first off WELCOME. We are glad you chose the Wranglerforum as your place to discuss Jeeps, Jeep lifestyle and everything else. It's a great place to kill time, learn new things about your Jeep, find out where the hottest wheeling areas are and more importantly, to make friends.

Having said that...

There has been a very disturbing trend lately where as new members come on here and blast the more established members when they are trying to help out.

Here's an example:

Quote:

What do you think is wrong with this?

I'll tell ya, Newbie Newberton wasn't clear in his first post and mislabeled a part of his Jeep he needs to replace. Rather than scold him on the mistake like those would on other "Jeep Forums", Salty Old Jeeper inquired as to what exactly a liftgate was. Because, Wranglers don't usually have "liftgates".
Now, rather than explaining himself better, Ol' Newbie here chose to flame the old guy and call him a moron just because the old guy wasn't setting in front of his crystal ball and couldn't read his mind.

See, a lot of new people come here with an "everyone should know what I'm talking about" attitude. The sad truth is that we CAN NOT read your minds. Although, I do hear that the software is being tested. Please help us help you by being more specific.

Our Forum's rules DO NOT allow personal attacks such as name calling. If you want to engage in that sort of thing, maybe this isn't the right forum for you. There are lots of Honda, Toyota and other "Jeep Forums" that cater to that sort of thing. Maybe you'll wanna go check them out.

For the most part our more senior members are kind and very very helpful. Although, their years and years of experience coupled with their ginormous brains can be rather intimidating, they've been doing this a LOT of years and know their stuff and won't bite your head off when you need help. Hell, I know of one Hot Rod forum where you have to eat a whole bunch of crap from the old guys until you get 50 posts. And after you have 50 posts, you're still not viewed as worth anything until you reach a thousand. We don't do that here. Sometimes I think we should but that's just me talking and not the Big Heads that actually run this place.

Long story short... Don't be like Newbie Newberton! Play nice or don't play at all! PERSONAL ATTACKS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. PERIOD!!! Think twice about the words you post in retaliation to what YOU believe is a negative comment or useless post. If it really is, WE, your trusty staff, WILL take care of it. I tell you this because now it is written down even if you chose not to read it it's still here. And now, the next time it happens, and it WILL... All I have to do is send a link to this via PM to point out just what kind of stupid pinhead you're being! And just know that I will be watching and handing out the infractions as I see fit.

Thanks for playing

Chris AKA "The crazy, angry Moderator"

right on!
Ive been a member of alot of different forums of all different topics and this is by far among the top 3 of my favorite "community" of forum users to be a part of. Everyone gets along for the most part, and no one really steps out of line, besides the sarcasm and kidding around. Its all in good fun.
If your gonna flame people or be nasty to other members... Look at the pic in my signature..four letters GTFO hehe

i seriously like this forum because everyone is cool and friendly and the people here are mostly smart, wittyand funny.

some times though its just misunderstanding or interpreting a comment differently than what was intended. but before typeing something we'll regret later we should stop and cool down... unless I'm in a bad mood. then of course it is allowed and you just deal with it *kidding

Welcome noobs! Seriously, welcome to WF. If you can't handle it here, then just stay off the internet because this is one of the easiest places to 'get along' on the web.

Haha. Funny way to make a point. And like said above, the reason I stay a happy member of this forum is because for the most part, everyone gets along and is cool.

I think it's all common sense here. I know I'm new, and until I get what the forum is about, I usually just read the new posts throughout the forum. Once I get the hang of it, I post.

(But since I don't own a Wrangler, or a CJ, I'll be idling here and there every now and then)

Seriously, this isn't 5th grade class! There's no need to be name calling!

Now off to read the classifieds and Craigslist.

There's never a good reason to flame somebody for asking a question that you think is obvious. There's also never a good reason to take umbrage at the tone you think somebody is using, Unless they're truly being an ass. It's easy to misread someone's tone or intention. Give them the benefit of the doubt before firing up the flamethrower, and a lot of these misunderstandings can be avoided. I'm glad to have found this forum, and it's rekindled the fun of sharing all things JEEP for me. If you want to flame, go to FARK.COM. The flaming there is a lot more fun and interesting.

Hey all,

Just got a Jeep a while back, my first car and probably my last, I just love it. Being new to Jeeps I would look around online asking things about it and I would ususally run into some of the Forums here so decided why not join. Reading these posts makes me ever so glad that I joined a forum where there obviously seems to be so much mutual respect and admiration between everyone.

Thanks for letting me be a part of it, I hope to learn lots from you all.

While I agree with the majority of what is being said, AND no one, I MEAN NO ONE, has the right to jam another person. I don't care if your a lifetime supporter-member-jeep inventor-spaceship pilot-rock crawlin' mo-fo. Treat each other with respect, and ya know, do it without getting too damn far up on your soap box. Sure, you got knowledge, YOUR experience to draw from, but recognize that allot of people DO NOT. Also, having said that, some people use four wheel drive EVERY SINGLE DAY for work, some run mud, hate rocks, live in the sand, heat, cold, underwater for all I know. Just because you are new to this site that does not mean that you are new to wheelin', jeeps, busted knuckles, and trailside rescues. Trust me, I have sucked some amazing info off of this site, and yes, I DO belong to some other sites, flame on, thats true. This site is cool, fuzzy, and I'd let my kid read it. For the most part it is dead on and great to read, the information is excellent.........some could just work on the delivery. I'm talking about the "old-timers" who have like 51 million posts. Good info, just do it in a less condescending manner. If you getting ticked reading this, then maybe you should review how YOU post. Don't like it, fine, kick me off or whatever it is you do block someone. It is a forum and just random info from many sources. some people here just need to quit taking themselves so damn serious.............come on guys, we are all in it together, but for a few, it is about dominating a thread with their point of view.

First off, I am NOT a lifetime supporter, nor am I a spaceship pilot (I was the navigator on that particular mission, so it wasn't my fault). But this is obviously aimed at me, and I do NOT appreciate it. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go rescue Chrysler before bedtime. Good day sir!

i may have been recently guilty of something similar regarding the word wranger (misspelled wrangler) but my sarcasm was all in good fun. anyway, if anyone read it and was offended i did apologize. sorry again. i understand that not everyone is as thick skinned as this guy. you all are really nice and WAYYYY helpful. that being said, thanks and keep up the great attitudes!

Easy sport, that was not aimed at ANYONE singled out by me. Trust me, if it was, I would of called them by name and secured my place in the "has been" list of this site. Some that was tongue in cheek, but also it pokes at the thread theme. If we are to worship at the alter of the multiple posts, no thanks. Good info can be had, but dominating a thread is not the way to do it, even if you have been here forever. I come here for my fairly stock TJ questions and stick to the other sites for the hard core stuff. I have seen people get burned out by the PEOPLE, not the sport.

Again, if it was not what you liked reading, take it to heart the next time you write, but it was a generalization, not a true slam and it was not at ONE person. It is like on the trail, help a guy out, you got it (knowledge) share it, and do so gladly and with a little bit of humility. Teach a little, listen allot. And as are most things, this is my opinion, what you choose to do with it is up to you.
