Post Always wanted a Wrangler...

I always wanted a Wrangler, but couldn't justify having two cars (and I'm certainly NOT getting rid of my El Camino) in addition to a Harley.

A buddy at work got one, and he threw me the keys. I made a big mistake of driving that thing around with a big smile across my face.

I've finally been able to justify the purchase realizing that winters are hell on my El Camino (with 170k miles and no weight in the back end) and the Wrangler could save me a few mpg as well.

Regardless, I'm starting to look for a high mileage truck, almost surely a TJ but would consider a YJ as well. Looking around $5k to spend (and I'm surprised how little this will add to my insurance being a "recreational vehicle" instead of a primary vehicle)

What should I look for, problem-wise? I'm most certainly only considering 6 cylinder trucks with manual tranny's. Really prefer a hard top because the winters here a chilly and the thing's gotta be parked outside in a parking lot far-far away (you know, the whole college thing)

Anyway, any advice?

Check out craigslist.com and see what they have in your area. Your not going to get HIGH MPG on a wrangler maybe 22 highway and 16 City if your lucky.

Watch for the rear seal. Mine went twice in 4,000 miles. While dropping it back off at the dealer, I looked at 5 others on the lot and they all had oil leaks. Haven't figured it why yet.

Much better than I'll ever get with my El Camino. Gets about 14-15 highway and about 10-11 city. Damn V8.

I'm not too familiar with the motors on these bad boys. I can get around under the hood with a Chevy small block or a Harley V-Twin, but never even attempted anything on an inline 6.

What exactly should I be looking at for this?
