Another "new" 01 Jeep Tj SE owner and...

Like the title say's, I just bought a 2001 Tj Wrangler SE (from a private party) this a few days ago with approximately 116k miles on it. Its my first Jeep. My wife and I are pretty stoked about it!
Now check this out (if any Jeep commaudre reads this), day two of ownership and driving proudly to the local market, the check engine light comes on. After some homework, I find the I'm able to pull codes with the 3 turns of the ignition key (would like to have known that one before I bought, ) Anyway, the P0455 code came up, some call it the "gas cap" code but it involves the emissions detection system for excess fuel vapor leaks.
Not butt hurt yet about the whole thing... So I guess here goes the used Jeep ownership ride and hopefully this issue doesn't leave too bad a taste in my mouth, I'd like to be in this for the long haul and hopefully pass the vehical down to my son one day and I can up grade...

Welcome to the Forum

Hope this turns out to be nothing more than a loose/bad cap. If not, post this up in the TJ section and the great Jeepers of the Forum will help you out.

gas cap code/check engine light ...

Thanks for the welcome,
Well, I traced the "gas cap" code issue to the 12" hose connecting into charcole canister that was cracked and very loosely fitted. There was enough hose on each end that I was able to trim an inch off each end. I reconnected the hose and a day later the check engine light turned off by itself! Thus passing smog also... yes!
