Back to the Wrangler in 2012... Finally! Nashville, TN.
After years of lurking on multiple forums, I am joining in on the site. Thanks for having me. I owned and operated a YJ for many years, and had to lay it to rest after I took it sideways at about 50 mph into a 15 foot deep washout that had not been there when I took the same curve on the way into a back country logging operation camping trip.
7/31 I put an order in on a 2012 JKU Rubi, Ill share the build sheet later. Has an estimated ship date of 8/16, and I am feeling excitement that I haven't felt excitement like this since the day I took my then girl friend out to dinner with an engagement ring in my pocket... Maybe a little pathetic I know, but I loved my YJ and I can not wait to take my new friend home.
Joining this forum to learn mainly, I know that there are many seasoned Jeep operators here. I am looking forward to comparing experiences as I learn this new machine. I am sure much has changed in the Wrangler world since I had my YJ, and your experience will be appreciated. I have been researching the JKs and JKUs for about a year, and made the decision to go with the 2012 JKU Rubi in hopes that the beast might have some teeth this time. (I spent some time in my friends 2010 JKU Rubi, and it left me wanting more than it could offer as far as performance was concerned.
I will definitely be posting performance reviews both on road and off soon after I take in the unit, and I decided to purchase the Rubi because I use/need it. (off road reviews after an engine break in period)
A hobby that I am looking very forward to dusting off is exploring the hundreds of acres of ex logging operations here in middle Tennessee. We have lots of hills, lots of creeks, and lots of mud if you know where to look.
I am mostly excited about this purchase because my wife is excited with me. She has no off roading experience, in fact I took her camping for her first time this summer. She is excited to go out and get muddy her first time, and I am excited to take her. Already have bushwacker fenders in mind, and a soft top for deep tracking, but I liked the idea of having a "Nice looking" jeep to take out when I wanted to take her to do something special, so I went with body color pieces.
Anyway, good to meet ya. If you're in Middle TN we should run sometime. I have a group of 4 other Jeep owners who are happy I am getting back into one.
