My wife drove off the lot with a Grand Cherokee and I put a deposit down on a Wrangler. I am waiting for the dealer to arrange for a swap to get me an unlimited that I want - there are only 4 unlimiteds with stick shift within 200 miles.

I expect some news midweek and hope to take delivery next week.

Im sick of how hard it is to get a stick anymore. I pretty much just settle for autos.

OP Thanks for posting this and to everyone for their feedback. I am also a newbie and deliberating making the switch to a JK after driving cars most of my driving life and I'm 95% over the cliff to a JK. (I have an 89 BMW 535i with a rare 5-speed, so I hear what you're saying. She gets Antique plates in 2014! Not my daily driver though). I test drove an Unlimited Sport and Sport "S" last week; tried both Auto and Manual transmission - the manual is definitely the way to go for fun. My husband thinks I've lost my mind...JK is a piece of junk...blah, blah, blah. After having suffered for three years with a Dodge Intrepid that has permanently broken A/C I need to move on. Life is too short. I have two girls and also carpool for school, soccer and the mall. My 12 y/o loves it, thinks it's "way" cool; the 14 y/o hates it and is mortified at the possibility of being seen in a Jeep. Says the back seat is uncomfortable, which it is but I'll be in the comfy drivers seat. I keep telling her the boys will think she has the coolest mom who drives a JK "topless". My main reason for going with the JK is to transport the kids, dirty from soccer, and the dog and to have fun doing it. The cloth seats are an issue though for sure and I don't want to spend the money for leather but will probably have to. I'm going to see if I can rent a JK like you did and am looking forward to what you decided at the end of your extended test drive. My sense is I will probably end up ordering a 2014 JK S if I can get leather or I'll just put seat covers on it and throw them in the wash. The Sport S is hard to find with a stick shift so I'm not holding out much hope that I'll find one.

What exactly did you end up having the dealer try to find. I'm in NJ so we may be competing for the same vehicle within the 200 mile radius Glad you made the right decision!

Totally agree, and another reason to get a JK.

I told the dealer that I needed an unlimited rubicon with manual transmission and the leather upgraded seats. He's got a short list of 4 but now the issue is arranging for a dealer swap, which is apparently very hard.

Once I get my new Jeep I'll post pics.

The BMW will make you feel like a man with no facial hair or calluses. The Jeep will turn you into a man with facial hair and calluses. Take the top off, throw it in 4-low and go climb something, that should make up your mind.

You won't regret it. I just jumped from an Audi S4 to a rubicon unlimited. Not nearly as fast, but a lot more fun.

I have some preliminary news. Dealer has located a rubicon unlimited in commando green with body color hard top and flares with a six speed manual transmission. It has a "camouflage" jeep badge, trail rated badge, and rubicon decal.

I have searched the googleverse and haven't found a visual example of what that looks like.

Will keep you posted as a deal draws nearer.

She's loving it, absolutely loves all the features and the ride. It's taking a little bit to get her over the idea that Jeeps are good - there's a lot of prejudice floating around that Jeeps are crappy.

Nice OP! The only problem is it looks too clean? You need to fix that...

I can't wait for you to send your BMW friend a picture of the view from the top of a mountain that he'd never get to in his beemer.

Congrats OP! Love the CG.

I too am a BMW and Audi owner and have recently found myself considering getting rid of both my cars for a JKU. Just signed up a couple day ago to start doing a little research, so this thread was a nice surprise.

Fantastic photo. I test drove today, but still debating on model choice (and price). What are people getting for negotiations? Paying invoice? Invoice minus 3 percent? Any other upgrades/benefits?

Go bare bones. You'll be better off when you go to do jeep stuff. (Like take off the doors, which are much heavier if they have power windows).
