Curious in Carlsbad, CA

Hey all. Debating a new JK Rubicon. My entire off-road experience has been heavily modified Toyota Tacomas and currently a '07 FJ Cruiser 6-speed manual with 3" lift, wheels/tires and rock rails. I am not tied to a brand but as the saying goes, "If it ain't broke don't fix it!". However my bucket list includes a topless vehicle and I've always liked the Wrangler so I'm debating whether or not I want a car payment.

I've been through a wealth of information here, especially the 2013 thread, wow! The biggest debate is 2-door or 4-door. I like to go camping (sometimes lodging) at National Parks plus off-roading. I don't think the 2-door has enough room for carrying around all the modern car camping luxuries I need to bring to convince friends or the significant other to go along. It will be a daily driver unless I keep the FJ Cruiser or sell it for something more ordinary to get around in.

Either way I think I like Commando Green if the color I saw on the posted brochure turns out to be true and saddle interior with leather...never had leather in a car before...another bucket list item.

Thanks again for all the information and hope to meet some of you soon, in a Jeep Wrangler or my old Toy whatever the case may be!

Cheers,

Matt K

Less than 1 month ago, I paid off my '03 Rubicon. I am now $300 richer each month. Now, I can afford to regear my Rubicon, upgrade the axles, buy 35s, and take the Jeep out!

That said, can you build up your FJ Cruiser to be more durable, with straight axles, 35" tires, and perhaps rent a motorhome when you get the itch to go camping in the National Forests?

I went to a Wrangler Forum meeting a few weeks ago, and the JKs are amazing vehicles - but, not enough to spend $$ on car payments vs. off road trips.
