Hi My name is Jake and in June 08 I will turn 40. My wife asked if I wanted a party or to take a trip to Vegas or a cruise.
I thought about it and decided I want a Jeep Wrangler 4 door Sahara (Steel Blue) instead. I have always wanted a Jeep. As a kid I had a huge crush on Mindy from Mork & Mindy (Robin Williams TV show). The show was set in Colorado and she drove a black Wrangler. Why I remember this is beyond me.
I have always wanted a Wrangler. Almost bought one twice. In the late 90s I test drove one and loved it. Bought an Acura Integra instead. 5 years ago my family bought me a Chrysler PT Cruiser (Kind of as a joke). I must admit it is a good car and my surf board fits inside it well. However, I have over 100,000 miles on it so I thought I would get through the winter and in the Spring get what I have always wanted.
I don't want a practical car. I want something American and different. My wife has a Toyota Minivan so I have the room to get whatever I want.
My friends have Hummers, BMWs, Land Rovers, and 300Ms. I just want something simple, basic and able to go wherever. People have said that the Wranglers are very unsafe. I looked online and it has a 5 star front crash rating. I'm going to use these 11 months to research Wrangelrs and order the one I truly like with all of the options I want.
PS I'm hoping the unlimited gets rear side airbags for 08.
Spring of 08 I will buy a dark green 4 door Wrangler Sahara Unlimited!
nice to hear you plan on fulfilling your lifelong dream of owning a wrangler. all that stuff about wranglers being unsafe is usually from people who a. never owned one and b. heard it from someone else. check out the crash tests and you will see it is as safe as most other vehicles. thank you for buying american!
welcome to WF
.....it always amazes me how small the world has become with the internet (I'm easily amazed ) I lived in Buck's county for 4 yrs......beautiful area and still one of my favorites out of all the places I've lived.
Glad you've reached a time in your life when everything doesn't have to be practical......it's such a great release. Although many aspects of a Jeep is practical and reliable, as with all addictions it can go beyond that
You're going to love your new Jeep.....welcome to the insanity
got rid of the husband.....bought another Jeep
Welcome, and congrats on your decision to finally get your jeep. I've wanted for 2 years and have one for 2 weeks now.
Lots of fun.
As far as the crash ratings - I've been to the auto graveyard twice after little odds and ends for my George. The jeeps there aren't as poor condition after impact as a LOT of the other cars there. Can't say the one that went up in smoke (appears to have been garaged when it happened) faired as well as the crashed ones.
As far as being safe, drive it like a Jeep, not like an Acura Integra and you'll be fine. You'll find that the Sahara Unlimited will handle very well on the road with the wide track and longer wheelbase.
2007 JK Unlimited traded for 2013 Dodge Dart
Good choice getting a Wrangler!
I have one on order and I hope it
gets here before my 67th birthday
Enjoy the selection process it can
be great fun. The best part of a
Wrangler is not the antisapation
its when you get in and drive.
another reason why people think wranglers are so unsafe is becauser of the first jeeps that came out, i had to convince my dad that the new wranglers were not as flip over prone to the old cj2A his dad had and flipped 8 times!!!
and jeeps are made of good steel adn are constructed solid so they can take abuse from an accident adn crumble ina round you
Welcome to WF! I think that Mindy may have had a subliminal effect on me also! Hubba Hubba. You are all ready doing better than myself, as I waited until I was 43 to get mine! WAAY to long! You will be very happy!
Jake, there are SO many of us just like you - far more than have been posted to date. I was 50 when I purchased my first Wrangler, an '01 SE 4 cylinder stick. I never thought I'd have one and I'm now on my second, an '04 Unlimited. If God so wills, I'll still have one the day I die. You've already figured out "It's a Jeep Thing; You Wouldn't Understand." Welcome to the forum!
