First Jeep - First Car

I got a 98 Sport and it's my first car. The cars I test drove were Wranglers, Wranglers, then a couple other Wranglers. I don't know why, but it's the only car I ever wanted.

I know less than zero about the technical stuff. I'm not going to be pimping it out too much, but I will definitely be hitting the trails and the beach this summer.

Maybe you guys can tell me where to go offroading with a group around Boston.

Also, are there restraints for dogs out there? When the top's off that's going to be a concern.

Thanks. I look forward to learning from you all.

Welcome to the forum, and the glorious world of Jeep. Though Jeeps arent cars, theyre just jeeps

Look into the Raingler net system for your dog, Ive heard of a few people using it.

Welcome to the forums...I'm new to the forum as well. Check out Quadratec.com. I have seen dog bowls and such for TJ's so they probably have the restraints as well. Quadratec will be your friend!

Welcome to the forum, lots of friendly people.....with a sense of humor

Here is a really good harness I've seen in action with a medium sized dog: offers free movement for the dog with secure restraint to the Jeep....http://www.allthingsjeep.com/jeepdogs.html

I didn't know they made 98 Sports in the "car" model. Just kidding with you boss. Congrats on the first ride and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to WF! I guess everyone told you it's not a car.

As far as your dog goes, I bought one of those pick-up bed cargo nets that are like bungees. It encloses the entire back of the Jeepie nicely and looks like it was made for it.

Welcome to the forum. You might be able just to teach your dog not to jump out of the jeep lol. My wife was driving my jeep and she took her new puppy for a ride, well needless to say I had to buy her another puppy I never worried about it because my lab is lazy and she wont get up enough energy to jump out. So the point of my rambling is to get a good restraint or a lazy lab that wont jump out

I've seen little harness-thingys in pet stores, kind of like the kind you'd walk your dog with, but it will hook in with the seat belt. I had to giggle a little when I saw it, I thought, "What kind of bad@$$ driver needs to put his DOG in a five point. Hehe, but I guess you do.

Welcome to the Forum!

Just to let you know that the name Jeep is the most revered name in automotive history. When people are going to the store they say, "Get in the car (or truck)." OTOH, when Jeep owners are going to ther store they say, "Get in the Jeep go." Cars and trucks are basically generic while the name Jeep stands alone. Even Jeep non-Jeep owners will refer to your vehicle by its revered name of "Jeep." But their Chevy, Ford, Dodge, etc. will generally nver be called by its manufacturer or its model. Jeeps are in a world by themselves. That's why the bumper sticker says,"It's a Jeep thing and you wouldn't understand." And no one does understand until they have one of their own. Again, Welcome!
