first post, need lift advice etc

Hey, i'm new to the forum. I don't know much about jeeps, gear ratios, etc. I will be buying a jeep in the next few months, my budget is around 12-14k. I just want to know the pros/ cons of buying a used lifted jeep, and just want some advice on what to look for. I'll be taking it off road and I want to install a 4-6 inch lift kit with 35's on it; reinforced axles, i'm looking at Dana 44's. What would be the best gear ratio (and if someone can please go into detail on the gears because itll be my first car and i dont really know much about it). Also what parts will I need to change when lifting it (if i dont buy it lifted already). I'll need new axles, drive shaft, gear ratio, and what else? Thanks and I'll most likely get a 05 TJ

First off, welcome to WF!
My suggestion to you is to do as much research as possible, up front. A LOT of work needs to go into running 35s correctly on a TJ. You don't necessarily need a 4 or 6" lift to do this. As far as axles, it wouldn't be a bad idea to find a TJ with a stock D44 rear. It would save having to swap axles in the future. However, if you get one with a D35, a popular option is a Ford 8.8 that can be found in salvage yards, etc. I'll save the specifics for someone more knowledgeable than me. Running that large of lift is going to require a SYE/CV shaft, new adj upper and lower CA's, possibly new track bars, etc. You'll also need to regear for the tires, assuming you have the ideal axles already. Ratio is according to which tranny/engine combination you have. Brakes and steering also should be addressed for 35s. You should definitely look into the grand scheme of things and consider all your options, first. There is much to learn.
