First wrangler, this thing is an awesome mess.

Hey, whoever is reading this! Picked up a rough and tough 88 YJ this afternoon. It's kind of a mess, but nothing a garage full of tools and some time cant sort out. It was built by a shop for a guy who sold it to a guy who sold it to me. I'm sure I'll be sporting a headache for a little while but it will be worth it. It's first stop is the mechanic to give it a once over and fix a couple things that need immediate attention. I'll be adding a high steer kit in a week or two, as well as adding a switch panel for all of the terribly wired lights, winch that doesn't work, etc., etc. By the time those are done I'm sure I'll be neck deep in lists of things to do and almost broken parts. I thank you for all of your help as I was googling all about this heap. It was, and I'm confident-will be, very very helpful! Now, bring on the wisdom!

I feel for you, I bought an 89 yj in January, the carburetor and ignition where a mess, I have switchs in the thing that do nothing and lights that are not hooked up. Why did I buy it, the prior owner had spent a lot of money to convert it to coil springs, great wheels and tires and other upgrades. Get rid of the carb as soon as you can. Mine is going this month. I will rewire the lights and do my own switch panel. You might want to upgrade the alternator, battery and repalce the coil if it is original. good luck.
