Freedom top / soft top combo

Hello forum. I just purchased a 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with a freedom hardtop. Thing is, it still has the factory installed optional soft top frame/harnass thing all rolled up and screwed to the rollover frame. The owner's manual says you shouldn't drive with both of these intact; in other words use one and uninstall/store the other.

The owner's manual shows how to remove the rolled up soft top from the rollover frame and then directs you to store it. It appears to be about 3 screws on each side....but when I asked the dealer mechanic, he said the job would take about 3 hours because they have to disconnect lighting etc...I've asked two dealerships and got the same answer.

I want to remove it myself just like in the book but I also don't want to get in over my head....are the mechanics right about this being a 3 hour job or maybe they just didn't understand.

Any tips?

No super easy. Remove the hardtop and remove the parts attached to the rollbar. Simple and took me about 20mins (including hardtop removal) pick up torx bits if you don't have a set.

Welcome to the Forum

The Jeep has gone this long with both attached so why not wait until the warmer weather hits and then remove the hard top and enjoy the Soft top for the summer. If you are like me, you will never re-install the hard top again.
