It's good to be here! I traded-in my fully loaded with every option 2001 BMW 330ci coupe to buy my 2005 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon and I'm loving it. I've taken a lot of crap for making the trade but people just don't understand -- it's a jeep thing!
It had only 7500 miles on it when I got it and it's completely stock. I'm looking forward to making some mods. and doing some off-roading with my kids. I've got to do something to improve the gas mileage. I'm thinking CAI, 62mm throttle body, header and exhaust. Open to suggestions.
Great lead in, I love that movies. Welcome to the club.
Ah yes, better gas mileage has been a quest for most Jeepers for many years. I myself gave up but I get 19 on the highway with 33's. I once got 32 MPG which at that time I thought my gauge had instantaneously become inaccurate. The reality, I was in 5th gear, with the top down and the A/C off; running along the Texas-Mexico border on a trip doing 20 to 30 MPH. So my RPM's were not much higher then Idle. I might be wrong but the biggest problem I see is the aerodynamics. I have a cold air intake and a 62mm, they did help a bit, about 2 mpg.
I estimate I'm only getting 200 miles on a tank of gas. I recently hit the trip OD after a fill-up. Not sure what that works out to. I think you're right, about the aerodynamics. That flat windshield is pushing all kinds of air out of the way. Maybe I need a bug deflector!
I'm disappointed to hear you (Odhinn) got only 2 extra MPG out of the CAI and the 62mm TB, but every little bit helps. Right? Maybe the Banks Torque Tube and the Monster Exhaust will push the MPG a little higher still.
