hello

Hey guys, I'm new to the board and don't actually own a jeep but I'm here to do some research so I can help out a friend of mine who is having some trouble. Is a late 80's wrangler a YJ?

It's got the carbed I6 and is running terribly rich.

Welcome to the forum. You really need to get yourself an addiction, ...er I mean Jeep. 87 - 95 is a yj.

Yeah, those stock carbs usually have problems, might want to go ahead and swap it out.

Hi Crick. Welcome to WF. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here who can help you. I'm not one of them, I'm just fluff, but they'll be in here to help you before too long.

I appreciate the quick response. I was thinking the carb was trash, he told me that he had a guy replace it twice already in the last 2 years or so. The one that is on there now has a reman. sticker on it dated june 2005.

haha, i may not have a jeep but i definitely have an addiction that wears a toyota badge.

I noticed in the thread that you posted, there was mention of a weber carb for the 4.2liter. do you know the details on this or where i might find them?

I'm back...

We put the weber carb on there and we are having some issues.

The idle speed is bi-polar, one minute it wants to idle fairly high around 1500-2000 but most of the time (after it's been driven a bit) it idles really low, the the point where it will die if you don't give it a little gas.

Also, the exhaust still smells rich and at low rpm it blows black smoke.

The good news is that in the midst of these remaining issues, the engine actually runs alot better and has a great deal more power. If we can get these few problems knocked out, we will be very happy campers. I'm going to check for vac. leaks today.

Any ideas as to what's causing the low speed richness? I'm a distributorless fuel injection man so i'm kind of at a loss here, haha.
