My name is Nate, I'm from Albuquerque, NM, and I drive a 2003 TJ sahara edition.
I'm 20 going on 21, (yay april)
and I'm enrolled full time at UNM and majoring in biology. I am considered a junior, but I have closer to 2 years left before I get my bachelors degree, and I'm looking to go to med school after completion of my BS.
I work in a hemodialysis outpatient clinic as a board certified hemodialysis technician, which I think is a fun job, because it is plenty challenging without leaving me too tired to go to school, not to mention my hours are extremely flexible, and the pay isn't bad at all for a part time job.
After trading in my old project car (a 1999 mercury cougar) for a Jeep Liberty, which I got for the roof rack and storage space, I started taking it wheeling.
I dont really care what Wrangler folk say about the Liberty, because they've probably never wheeled in one. It has a flexy dana 35 equipped rear suspension, just like a TJ, and a dana 30 front axle (IFS kinda sucks stock, but a 2.5" lifted liberty can clear upwards of 700 on the RTI ramp.) Anyways, I got it lifted, and I took it wheeling, and loved it. However, after a while, I started getting an itch for a little more. I pestered superlift repeatedly to hurry the heck up and release their 4.5" Liberty lift, but they kept delaying and delaying, so I gave in and started searching for a Cherokee or Wrangler.
I got the TJ because I wanted a frame on body platform so I could body lift it, and I also wanted a coil suspension, because I think that leaf springs ride like crap...
The TJ I got is exactly what I was looking for, minus the half doors and upper door sliders, which I'll get eventually. It came with a Dana 44 rear axle and a worthless traclock differential.
A few weeks after purchase, my girlfriend bought me a 2" performance accessories body lift for christmas, which took me a saturday night and all sunday to install in my parents garage.
I took out the rear seat because I couldn't fit any one of my friends back there if I tried, and I dont plan on children any time soon. I'm going to rip out the carpet and get the interior sprayed with bedliner, and install a tuffy oversized security drawer in the rear of the Jeep. Then I'm going to get rid of my crappy stock console and put a Tuffy Stereo/speaker security console (the crap-plastic lockable compartment had already been broken into by idiot theives before I bought the jeep, so it needs replacement.)
Before I'll touch larger tires than stock, I'm going to get a Dana 44 front axle from a rubicon, and then after that, I envision an Nth degree mobility short arm kit to go with my 2" body lift, and then 35" MTR's all around. A LoD rear bumper/tire carrier, and a Kilby front bumper with warn winch brackets, and of course a warn winch. Further off into the future, maybe get an ARB air locker for the rear (I'll just use the locker that came with the rubicon front dana 44.)
IF you've read this far into my message than give yourself a huge pat on the back. It's nice to enter the world of wranglers, so hi everyone... -Nate
