Smile I'm New to WF and want a jeep

Hey I'm Chris from Grass Lake MI and I just got my license and I want a jeep wangler for my first jeep!! Two buddies have Cherokees (one of them has 35'' 12''wide tires with 4'' lift and other is stock) And I love to go Off-Roading with them!! Fun Fun!
With me being 16 and not having a real steady job I am a tad hesitant about getting one cause of mpg and it turning into a money-pit with the tires and lift kit that are 'required'.
Looking at craigs list for jeeps and I am finding some but most are 3k+. I CAN NOT spend over 3,500 and 3k is kinda pushing it.
I have heard that wanglers just dont die and thats why the bluebook is so high, Is that it?
What does adding a lift kit and bigger/wider tires do to mpg? Please explain in a way that a 5 year old can get.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Or anything that i should be on the lookout for when buying one?

Well this is just my opinon, I got my Jeep as my first vehicle.
I had 3,000 when I was 16, I could have bought a car but decided to wait. I saved up over $6,000 and I VERY happy I waited, and got the Jeep I wanted and was able to lift it and put tires on it. I know you are 16 and want to get out there and start driving, but sometimes its better to be patient. Good luck

I have to get something now, we dont have a extra car around most of the time and I dont want to drive around in a min-van all the time.

Your next post is #2,000

Throw some snow/mud terrains on the mini van and see how far you can go.

Just kidding. I say go for a cherokee first as you are on a budget. You can get a nice XJ for a much better price than a $3000 Wrangler. 3K on a Cherokee will get you quite a lot of vehicle. Just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt.

Me and a buddy thought about it and this is what we found

As for the cherokee, I dont like them at all. They look like a normal SUV and i want to be able take the top and doors off (and back on)

Thanks jgano23

I know I am not being reasonable but this is what I want, probably not what i am going to get.
