Jeep curious

Hey everyone, found you guys by searching for Jeep in the app store. I have been lurking for a few days and it looks like a nice place. I guess you can say I am jeep curious because I have been looking into them for about a month now after going off roading with a friend. There are a lot of light off road trails around me that have been calling my name, unfortunately my 2006 3 series has AWD but is lacking in the ground clearance same for the ladies's Legacy.

I do not have a jeep... Yet. I am currently looking at a 2001 6cyl automatic sport model with about 56k miles and an automatic trans. It has aftermarket bumpers, a 3 inch lift and 32 inch tires. It looks pretty clean. The guy is looking to get 12k for it. Seems a bit high to me, thoughts?

Sounds just a little high but with the low mileage and if everything else is good it is not unreasonable. You will find that the Wranglers hold their resale value better than most other vehicles out there. So if the tranny is good, it runs smooth (engine wise) and is clean, rust free, and it has been well maintianed then it is definitely worth looking into.

Oh and Welcome to Wrangler Forum

Check the underneath for rust and junk and see how it rides on road and engage the four wheel and try it out if it looks good and works go for it good luck

Welcome to the forum. The price might be a little high for a sport model, but if it is clean, no rust or dents and drives great and since it already has a lift and other aftermarket upgrades and low miles thats not too bad. Three weeks ago I paid $9,800 for my 2000 Jeep Sahara with 69,000 miles. After looking for two years, I found the one I wanted within my price range.

12K is what he's asking for it, not unreasonable considering what he paid for the tires and front bumper set-up, those are not the original rims as he stated. The other aftermarket parts he listed did not cost him that much, I would offer him 11.5K, if he bites then mention that the add ons are not very expensive, the Jeep is still pretty stock. Is it 3" of body lift? It doesn't look like it has 3" of lift to me, not as it is sitting on 31's. If he didn't put the lift on himself then offer him 11K and see how that flies, I bet he will take it.

I would personally recommend getting a 5-speed especially if you are going to be off-roading on a frequent basis. Other than that, the jeep you mentioned looked clean and I agree with the others that it may be a tade on the high side. Good Luck!

and unlike Tony, I strongly recommend the auto for off roading, one less pedal to push while you're laying flat back in your seat staring at the clouds.

Point being - transmissions are a personal choice, get what YOU feel comfortable with. They both work just fine.

Hon, you have to get some installed, or you'll NEVER get to play in the rocks!
I even have a couple of giant zip ties I'll give you to fasten them on with!

Thanks for all the tips guys. I thought it seemed high, even given the great resale value of the Wrangler.

I will start him off at 10.5k, even if he takes it as an insult, I am sure he will get over it!

I am going to stick with the auto transmission, I am only willing to go with a 5-speed if it is "just" right.
