Just bought my first Jeep. This forum is gonna save my butt I think!

Just bought a 2002 Wrangler Sport with about 110,000 miles on it. Seemed to run great when I looked at it but just a few hours after I bought it the check engine light came on and it started sputtering a bit. Checked the codes at Autozone and it shows that all six cylinders have had multiple misfires. I came on here and found a lot of info. My mechanic (who does mostly imports) wants to replace the coil rail and plugs but he's not sure that will fix it. From what I've read here it looks like it could be the catalytic converter. I'll check that tonight with my laser thermometer as suggested here. With the information I found here I feel confident enough to change the plugs myself. I want to do that anyway and inspect each one. I sure hope the issue isn't that they're getting soaked with oil and that the seller just cleaned them off long enough to pass this thing off on me. But I think if that were the case it would be smoking out the exhaust and I'm not seeing it. Most of the time it runs fine. Then suddenly the CEL will go from steady to flashing. Sometimes that's all but sometimes that leads to it sputtering and losing power. Sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. Definitely seems to happen more on the freeway around 3000 RPM and after it's warmed up. Oil pressure is just above mid-scale. Temp right on 210 just like all Wranglers I've seen.

If anyone has any other thoughts on this issue I'd love to hear them. Hopefully I didn't just buy myself a blue lemon.

Oh man I hope everything works out. My wife had an issue with our CEL coming on and our Jeep was jumping forward on her. She limped it home thankfully.

Before we bought a code reader we unplugged the battery (big mistake on our part) and zeroed out the codes. Runs great but still scares me to think what caused the flub.

Keep us posted on the progress.

Also great name! I ride a 09 Vision and love it

Thanks! That's exactly what I have. I bought a '07 Jackpot when they were new and the Vision didn't come out until the next year. I bought an '09 and although I love my tricked out Jackpot (it's white with blue flames) I've gotten so spoiled by the Vision that the Jackpot never gets ridden. I've finally decided to sell it. I was gonna keep it until it became a collectible and I use it from time to time in photoshoots but I need the room in my garage more than I need two motorcycles.

I love my Vision. I haven't been able to ride since July and I'm feining!
