Thumbs up Just joined in Colorado!

Hello Fellow Wrangler Drivers,

My name is Mike. I am the proud owner of a 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport. I have had it for about two years now and moved to beautiful Colorado this past September. I would love to communicate and interact with as many forum members as possible, especially those in the Rocky Mountain region.

At this point I am considering selling the hard top and purchasing a soft top, reason being is I no longer have a garage to store my top but want to be able to utilize the luxuries of a Wrangler as possible. What are your guys thoughts on that? Pros / Cons to having a soft top in Colorado? Also, if anyone here in the Denver area know of any great Jeep specific mechanics I would love to know about them.

Ok, that is all for me now! Please feel free to reach out! I would love to interact.

Welcome...where you located? I live at pretty much the intersection of Havana/Alameda just where denver meets aurora

i just hit a trail as a spur of the moment thing yesterday...you're welcome to go on the next one as well. I think i'm going to hit the same trail this saturday because its supposed to snow so it might be a bit more difficult (especially the damn steep downhill portion which i slid down some of yesterday lol)

I personally say sell the hardtop and get a soft top...specifically a Trektop NX lol.

I was in your same position...i had a two piece hardtop on my wrangler from the day i bought it and then moved from Iowa to Colorado. I decided in august to sell the hardtop and bought my Trektop NX and have absolutely ZERO regrets in doing so...for me, the soft top has a ton more uses than the hardtop did for me. The only positives for me with the hardtop were glass windows and a folding rear window...other than that, nothing besides a pain in the ass to get off haha

I am located in Lakewood actually, near Alameda and Sheridan.
That is awesome you hit a trail yesterday? Where exactly? The lady and I went up into the Mountains outside Winter Park and did some hiking, then down to Red Rocks. Yesterday was a great day to get out and about.

How much was the Trektop NX? I wonder how much I could get for my hardtop? What did you get?

Thanks for replying man!

Hey Clay,

Thanks for the warm welcome! I would love to keep the hard top but I just have nowhere to store it and nothing is better than having the doors and top off!!

Well this is true. That's when you find a friends house and stash it there. I kept mine at my gf's parents house all summer and rocked a bikini top

While that would be a good idea in theory but since we are new to town I don't really no anyone who would be down for that. haha! I thought about renting a storage unit but didn't feel it was practical.

Oh, nice! I've got a friend that lives over that way...i work decently close to there as well (right by the Cherry Creek mall)

The trail i hit was slaughterhouse gulch...its about 8 miles from conifer. You're welcome to go this weekend when i hit it again if you'd like. Its not a difficult trail. Only difficult parts are wheer its snowy/icy. Heres a link to the trail info:

TrailDamage.com - Slaughterhouse Gulch

I paid around 550 for my trektop nx shortly after they came out and sold my hardtop for 1300...if you've got a standard hardtop in good shape i'd guess you to get in the 800-1000 range

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I need to get some work one on my Jeep before I hit up Slaughterhouse Gulch. Thanks for the invite. We will certainly have to hit up a trail soon.

How did you go about selling your hardtop? Craigslist, ebay, classified ads, etc? Thanks!

Not a problem...

and there isnt much needed to hit slaughterhouse...its not a hard trail. I didnt see any mudpits when i was there monday and where they were supposed to be, were gated off...

You should be able to handle it as you sit now...

as for my top, i sold it on Craigslist...had quite a few bites but then a guy said he was on his way and just picked it up same day. Drove up from the springs and we just took the top off mine and put the top on his...cant remember if i mentioned it, but the reason i got 1300 for mine was because it was a 2 piece hardtop so you could just remove the front section and store it on the rear...was a cool top but i love my soft top over the hardtop for sure
