Just picked up a YJ, eastern NC

Hi everyone, Im Jason and Im form South Carolina, Im stationed on Camp Lejeune right now so Im up in NC for the time being. I just bought a 93 4cyl, 5 speed 4x4 with 142K on it. It looks to be in great shape, no rust on the body, motor isnt leaking anything other than the valve cover gasket a little. Its got some aftermarket bumpers, 15" wheels, 30" tires and a bikini top, plus a soft top that I need to go pick up sometime. The things I dont like are the stereo- the two factory speakers sound terrible so Im gonna need to replace them and find a soundbar to put in. I wanna get some 33's and lift it a little, but Ive never owned a 4x4 before so I need to research and figure out exactly which route I wanna go... I was also thinking about removing the rear seat and getting the bestop halftop cover - Bestop Halftop Soft Top for Jeep Wrangler YJ at Morris 4x4. Does anyone have any experience with that halftop? Its pretty expensive so I want to make sure its a good investment cause we get a lot of rain here during some parts of the year and I wanna keep myself dry during that time cause this is my only vehicle.

Another thing I noticed was that it grinds going from first to second pretty often, so I think the synchros are going bad. Thats a common problem with this transmission isnt it? Thats all for now, on to the pics cause thats what everyone always wants to see. I would appreciate any advice you guys could give a new jeep owner btw. Thanks

Welcome! And thank you for your service to our country! Be sure to check out the yj section of the forum for any questions about your Jeep. I've learned so much and saved a ton of $$ just from reading and asking questions. Nice YJ!

I also found a 4.0L motor with an ax-15 from a 2wd '92 for sale locally for $300, is it worth picking them up and rebuilding just to have as a spare? They have 180K on em
