looking to buy for the first time and wanting opinions

Hello there. I am looking to buy a wrangler for the first time. I have always wanted one and have started looking for a good deal. I am thinking that private owner is a better choice to keep the cost down. I recently looked at a 1992 with 111k miles. Body is in excellent condition and it has a new top. I went to test drive it and there was a noice coming from the driver front area and then it wouldn't restart. The owner took it to the shop and had all brakes replaced, new brake lines, new shocks, a bad sensor and the fueld pumped replace. I am apprehensive because of the age. It's got the 4.0 i6 and it's an automatic. The transmission was rebuilt about 6 years ago because they incorrectly towed it neutral behind their rv. What are your thoughts on purchasing? He was asking $6000 and kelley blue book is quite a bit lower. Tires are about 2 years old and it has a new top on it. Thanks for any suggestions regarding if I should buy it and how much is a fair price and if I am going to have problems with it.

Welcome to WF. 6K seems a little high for a '92.

Welcome.
Sounds like you are being taken for a ride.
Don't rush into buying one. Take a look at a few and don't settle till you get a deal you are comfortable with. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I felt it was a little high and I don't want to make the wrong decision.

Welcome and yes, price is too steep. Keep looking. The right find takes time. My search took almost 6 months of sorting through a bunch of "interesting" rigs.

As the weather warms people will start thinking more of them and the prices will rise. If it's still cold where you are then you still have time before they creep up. The same things happen with motorcycles.

That's a good point Mortalis, it's still cold here in Ohio. In fact, the day I went and looked at it there was snow on the ground and we have a winter storm warning for tonight and tomorrow with 4-6 inches possible. I have thought so much about this that it's driving me and my family crazy. I have to decide today because the owner just picked it up from the shop with all of the repairs.
