Manual X-Mission in an Automatic World

Greetings all from the Nation's Capitol (really just outside in Arlington, VA but close enough!).

Finally got myself a Jeep ('02 Sport) last month after talking about it for a few years. Saw one I liked and pulled the trigger.

Anyone that has been to the DC area will tell you we have some of the worst stop and go traffic you will ever have the dubious pleasure of driving in. So what better way to address that than to insist on a manual transmission!

Anyways, I've already gotten some good information from these forums and have decided some of my future "projects" will include:

-Buying a front license plate mount (had my tags on for a total of 4 days before getting a ticket! Parked on the street no less!!).
-Replacing the rusty door handles
-Bypassing the #4 Door Shut Fuse with a switch
-New running boards (likely tubulars)
-Bypassing ignition on for 12 V outlet power
-Possible sound system (and thus alarm)

I am an electrical engineer, so obviously anything to do with the electrical system will come pretty easily to me. Mechanically...hah...that's another story. Suffice it to say that outside of some cosmetic things and swap-outs, I will be having most of that work done by a qualified professional (or at least someone who is not mechanically illiterate!)

Look forward to jumping in...

My brother-in-law used to live in Arlington. So, I know the traffic that you speak of. With that manual tranny, your left calf muscle will get pretty beefy in no time...LOL!

I'm just the opposite when it comes to vehicles, the mechanical comes as natural as breathing, but the electrical is like some sort of dark magic that confounds me. My son and I built his first car up from a junker with a blown motor. The mechanicals are all good, but the there's an electrical issue we've been chasing for over a year now. I'm ready to admit defeat and have a professional look it over.
