Greetings from East Lansing, Michigan. This is my second Jeep, a 2002 TJ that is a DD and backcountry adventure vehicle; previous Jeep was a 1989 YJ. I'm not big on "wheeling," as I'm mostly an explore a two-track in the woods, camp on an empty beach, look at the remains of some long-abandoned town, and get away from noise and chaos and cell phone reception kinda person anymore.
I'm really hoping to learn a few things here and maybe get some inside info from folks who know a thing or two about the scenic backroads and trails around the Great Lakes. There seems to be a real lack of publicly accessible information about the accessible dirt roads, two-tracks, and trails in this part of the continent, both on the US and Canadian side of the lakes.
The Jeep is a 4.0, 3-speed auto, NP231/supershort SYE, D30/Ford8.8, 31" tires, and a bit of tweaking to the suspension. The interior is set up for organized and comfortable self-sufficient exploring and camping for two adults for 7-10 days, assuming occasional access to fuel along the route.
