My name is Kyra and I just purchased my first jeep. I'm super excited since I've wanted one since I was a kid. It's a 2010 Wrangler Unlimited. I think it's an islander edition based on a couple postes I read on here that I found on Google. Blue seats with tiki guys and blue leather stitched steering wheel.
I'm excited to learn some stuff from you guys. I already started making going through the cheap mods sticky and making a list.
As for my user name, it's force of habit from my mustang club and forums. I still have my 98 Mustang Gt as well as my new jeep. Still involved in the club, which is why I was excited to find this forum.
So I figured id share a little more about myself starting with how I acquired the jeep cause I think the story is funny...
I previously had a 2012 basedy base model Kia soul. You know the alien Green Party rock one. I was not a fan of the car after I had it for more than 2 days. It was great to have something to drive to preserve my mustang but it really just wasn't my style. I went into my Kia dealer for one of my nifty free car washes and there was a guy asking everyone if they wanted a free appraisal of their cars and everyone was being very rude to him, so I figure why not if it's free. I was curious as to what it was valued at vs what I owed anyway. So they tell me about some program they have going on where they put you in a new one for the same payment and I told them honestly I don't like the new Souls and when I do go to buy a new car, I want 4wd. I had actually been looking into the Patriots since they were in the same price range (starting) as my Kia was. So they start telling me about their 4wd models and completely kidding I as well what about that jeep you have parked in the snow on the lawn out front? And well I ended up leaving with it.
It's probably not actually that funny of a story but I get a kick out of it. Most likely because of the look on my bf's face when he saw it haha.
So like I said this is my first jeep, and I don't know anything about them or really about cars in general so if I sound ignorant I apologize in advance.
I wonder though if anyone has any tips on improving MPG on it. I have big ol wheels on it that it came with and I know that doesn't help anything lol. But if anyone has any tips/recommendations I appreciate it. Also, I was trying to find if the islander edition was supposed to come with the tow package from the factory or what. The listing for it at the Kia dealer said it had it in the comments section of the listing, so it wasn't listed as an official option but I'm curious if it's supposed to have it cause there is no hitch. Not that I can see any reason why someone would take it off but some people are weird lol
And now here's some pics, nice and salty from the wonderful Chicago winter this year.
nice choice in jeeps lol I just bought mine last Wednesday
2014 wrangler Sahara unlimited it has a Phantom package on it from a company called Rocky Ridge
so far I am loving it
I traded in my 2012 charger super bee SRT 8 for it
So you want to improve your milage? The best way I've found to do this only works on long trips on our interstate system. At a truck stop pull behind a semi and attach the Jeep to the crash bar with your tow strap. When you see the driver getting into his rig, back up and apply tension to the strap. Leave your Jeep in neutral and enjoy 60+ m.p.g.
Disclaimer: The above advice is only to be used on trips where your destination is flexible. Do not use this method on toll roads unless you have a pike pass or similar device to pay your tolls. Do not use this method with a passenger (or driver) that has a low volume bladder since truckers have been peeing into bottles for many years. Leave windows up during this practice because truckers have been peeing into bottles for years and they sometimes explode when tossed out the window. I am not liable for any tickets you may receive from using my advice. I am not liable for any accidents that may occur when another trucker tells your tow vehicle, via CB radio, what you are doing and towing driver does a brake test.
