New to the forums, but on my third Jeep. Glad to be here and learn everything i need to learn about my new JK. The history:
First Jeep was a 1968 CJ-5 that I got in 1990 while in High School. It was a rustbucket deathtrap but perfectly built for getting through mud season in Vermont. Eventually I did a full tear-down, rebuild on this truck and it looked great. Sadly, when I left it with a friend upon moving to Cali, my friend promptly rolled it down a logging road on a mountainside, rolling it 6 or 7 times. The rollcage i rebuilt held up, and it drove away from the scene... but the frame was so bent to hell and that was the end of that.
Second Jeep was a '97 TJ Sport Soft Top that spent half it's life in Washington, DC and the other half in California, trekking through Joshua Tree, etc. Great truck but the it started to go weak on me in the engine -- really struggled taking the hills from LA to Moab one year -- (and it was time to have a kid) so i dumped it in favor of an '03 4Runner in 2003 which I drove for 10 years.
The New Jeep is a '13 JK Unlimited Sahara in Commando Green -- essentially fully loaded. right down to the heated seats. I wanted to get back to my beloved Jeeps, but I still have that kid to truck around to sports and birthday parties, so 4 doors was needed. Being almost 40 also means I want the comforts of a nice truck too. This Jeep is awesome on all fronts. Can't wait to go doors off-windshield down this summer and start teaching the boy why Jeeps are the best trucks on earth.
Looking forward to reading more about everyone else's JKs here and figuring out how I want to mod this thing after I've used it for a while.
