New from Dallas

Hello everyone. I haven't owned a jeep in over 15 years but I am glad to be back in the fold.

My last Jeep was a '75 CJ5 with a chevy 350 conversion and a purple renegade finish. I loved that thing, but we lost it when we were pulling it back from Denver in '96, and in the middle of New Mexico the front bumper (which the hitch was attached to) came loose. Poor thing went into a field and rolled 6 times. I ended up selling it for a 6 pack of shiner

Anyway decided it was time to get back into it so I went out and grabbed myself a new jku. It wasn't an easy task though. Apparently its difficult to find anything out there with a 6 speed manual. However I could not be happier with my new ride.

I wanted to thank the members of this forum in advance. I can already tell that getting questions answered and finding the right upgrades for this thing is going to be much easier than the days of flipping through old newsprint catalogs with a yellow legal pad (although maybe not as fun ).

Welcome! Where in the metroplex are you? Who'd you buy your Rubi from?

Rockwall. Purchased it from Randall Noe in Terrell. Wouldn't recommend them though. They didn't seem very educated about what they were selling. The sales manager was trying to convince me that this particular jeep had an aftermarket suspension/wheel/tire upgrade that they had installed. It was a long day but I was persistent and my time spent selling Fords helped me cut through the BS.

I know there are a few 4x4 parks within a few hours drive but I am having trouble finding anywhere closer than that to take this thing and get it dirty. Do you happen to know of anywhere I can break this thing in at?

Bridgeport to the west or Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area Seeing as you're in Rockwall, the latter may be closer to you.

Thanks! I just saw barnwell/gilmer in another newcomers post. On paper Bridgeport is closer but it looks like I won't have to mess with DFW traffic going to BMRA so I am thinking that is going to be my primary rec place

yeah...and trying to drive on 114 when something's going on at Texas Motor Speedway is an exercise if futility.
