New from Leander, TX

Have been lurking here for quite some time. Finally got a 99 TJ Sport a couple of months ago. I'm getting very close to age 65 and this is my first Jeep. Always managed to think of some common sense excuse not to get on. But I've had many, many motorcycles. Raced a lot of motocross in the 60's and 70's, got into street and now back dual sporting. Lived in Saudi Arabia in the late 70's through the 80's and did a lot of desert riding and driving. Had a Land Cruiser and then a Plymouth Trail Duster with desert tires. That was my favorite sand machine.
Own property in Big Bend and hope to move there soon. I think the TJ will be a lot of fun out there. But then it's a lot of fun around here.

Thanks. Have been lurking here for quite some time and there is a wealth of info here. I doubt I'll be doing any major mods but I really enjoy the technical side here.

Well, actually I will be adding a winch very soon. In the desert we used long nylon ropes and come alongs. But I really want a winch just in case. They just aren't that expensive anymore.
But my big problem is that I've really fallen for this Jeep. It's noisy, rough and sorta crude but hard to stay out of. After reading and researching I've got the hots really bad for a 2006 Rubicon Unlimited. And there is one in Austin for sale that is very nice but it's got an auto. And I want the 2006 for the 6 speed manual. And it's right at $20K but for the condition and low mileage I think that's in the ballpark. There is also an orange unlimited for a grand less. 48K miles and very clean. $19K. But auto also.
