New from Southern Oregon Cascades

Hey, all, just purchased a 1998 Jeep Wrangler Sport (black - unfortunately - inline 6, auto, 90k miles, hard top, stereo bar, fog lights, A/C). A popular car down here in the mountains, they tend to get snapped up fast. Bought a manual off ebay, now I need to start messing around with it.

First up: Change all the maintenance items to get off to the right start and fix the %$#@& rattling heat shields. Next: replace A/C compressor (already ordered by the guy I bought the Jeep from), recharge system. Next: new exhaust header, as the old one's been welded and is leaking. Next: transmission pan gasket's leaking - time for a complete transmission service anyway. Next: a metal mesh grid to go behind the grill to keep bugs and rocks (of which we have a lot) out, or I'll be looking at a new radiator pronto.

Future: new motor mounts, new shocks. Another set of wheels for studded winter tires, depending on how well it handles this winter without them.

Necessary bling: Pink Jeep cap (just because), new rubberized floor mats for winter, soft top (for next year). Want those chainplate metal rear exterior body plates for absolutely no good reason. I just do. Different stereo - it came with a monster amplifier and a hideously loud subwoofer box taking up all my grocery space. It weighed around 45 pounds when I yanked it out. Bah.

Eventually: paint it a less boring color. Or maybe stripes. Or daisies. I think the spouse would go for stripes, but probably not yellow and pink daisies.

Just trying to help her nic-name her jeep. After her intro I thought "DAISY" was fitting.

He already has a name - I was going to name him "Tippi" to remind myself that the Wrangler is not the Mini Cooper S and cannot be driven like one, but the spouse pointed out that was inviting the wrath of Fate.

Hence his name is Delno, after a beloved uncle (dead probably 35 years now) who was a forest ranger up in the Sierra Nevadas and had a whole fleet of 40s and 50s Jeeps.

Thanks for the welcome!

Here's the fleet:

Welcome to the site.

You live in a beautiful area of the country. My dad lives west of Portland and my uncle and aunt live in Ashland. Dad took us through your neck of the woods when we were out there.

We look forward to going back.
