New girl to jeep, please help me choose between 5 cars!!!

So I'm struggling between 5 cars.

1.Wrangler, 2004 has 78,000 miles, 2.5, 4cyl, automatic, 1/2 doors, clean $9000 (dealer)

2. Wrangler 2001 has 72,000 miles, 4.0, 6cyl, automatic, full doors, clean $9000 (pvt seller)

3. Wrangler 2001 has 89,000, 4.0 6cyl, automatic, full doors, clean $9000 (dealer)

4. Wrangler 2002, has 160,000, 4.0 6cyl, full doors, clean $8000 (pvt seller)

5. Wrangler 2004, has 83,000 miles, 2.5, 4cyl, automatic, clean $9000 (pvt seller)

What do you think. I wanted a s new a year as I could get but the 01's have a better engine. I am a city driver should I go for the older year better engine? or newer year and a 4cyl engine? Help!!! Thanks!

I would probably go with Number 2 because it's a 6 cyl. and doesn't have that many miles, but its up to you

Id say number 2 as well since it has the fewest miles per year and the lowest miles overall.

X2 Also, try to avoid dealers. They have huge markups that can be avoided with private sellers.

Number 2, with that many miles that engine is just getting broke in, you've got years of life left in that one. Just remember, a Jeep is as aerodynamic as a brick so don't expect 18mpg city. BTW, it's a Jeep, not a car.

I am wih evryone else.....number two sound like the one I'd go with from what little you have said. I also agree that you should not call the wranglers ..."cars" haha

#2 or #3 - which ever has the most upgrades (tires, lift, top, etc.)

Motor trumps year when it's that close

D44 Rear is also important if your gonna wheel it.. Saves one big step for many if you buy one with the Dana 44 rear from the factory

Oh, and don't buy one that's already "built". You'll appreciate it more if you put in the work, love, money, effort, blood, sweat, and skin from knuckles yourself. Plus, you'll learn more about the various parts and their functions than if someone else already did it.

dont plan on modifying it

I really dont plan on raising or doing anything crazy to the jeep, so thats why i was trying to decide between the 4cy and 6cyl. I think I'm pretyy sure its gonna be the 6cyl now. But i just found another car to add to my list:

Wrangler, 2002 Safari, has 91,000 miles, automatic, 6cyl, $9000 (pvt seller)

all the others were sports.

Is this for DD on road only or are you planning to do some trails as well? If you are not planning to modify it then don't worry about whether it has the D-44 or not. I would suggest that you go with one of the 4.0s though. Take a couple out on a test drive. Check the handling at highway speeds and get them in the dirt to make sure that the 4WD is functioning properly. Good luck on your search and let us know what you find.

I'm a fan of the early 2000's sahara's.. If that one is in good running order that is the one i would buy.. Since you don't seem like you'll be offroading it, Jds is right.. The D44 is not needed in that case

Generally speaking the automatic mated to the 4cyl / the 2.5 is not very well liked. If you choose an automatic would also make sure it is 4.0 or 6cyl. Just my.02

Thank you all sooooo much for your help. This forum has been amazing and helped me to finally get my first JEEP!!!! I am so excited. Unfortunately I lost #2, someone beat me to the punch, but I ended up finding something else and just bought it today. Whoohooo!!

So i ended up with a 2003 Wrangler Sahara, automatic, 6cyl, with 80,000 miles and I ended up paying 9,500 at a dealer all in. I'm really happy with the car, it is souped up with all the creature comforts and still all the coolness that is Jeep. It came with a hardtop which i like but im already ready to remove it and get the soft top.

Can you guys reccomend the best/easiest soft top to quickly remove and put on? I've been looking at the best tops but was wondering if there are any others with possibly better prices too. Thanks everyone and it's official- I'm a JEEP girl!!

bestop is the best. Others that are cheaper won't last as long, and you'll end up buying a bestop a few years down the road anyways. Since you don't have any soft top hardware, you should go with ether the bestop super top, which essentially is a stock top with better material and all of the hardware necessary, or the bestop sunrider. The sunrider is the one that comes with the 'sunroof' feature that enables you to flip the front of the top back like a giant sunroof. The material is a bit thinner, so it will be a little louder with the top up.

Well now that it's official, welcome to the madness, and don't forget to wave.

p.s. you're still calling it a car.

Lots of options-and it should be more than just cost of the top. There are a lot of different types of soft-tops and a lot of different manufactures.

Bestop is the one who makes the "factory" soft-tops and their quality is kinda the industry standard, most people will compare whatever other maker to Bestop as far as trying to describe how good or exspensive their top is.

If you have a place to store your hardtop than you could run a smaller top or maybe without windows-and if you have a garage that figures into it as well.

There are "tops" that go together as 2 or 3 or 4 pieces and it may get confusing. There are also threads on here about the good and bad points of the tops-I would assume you have full hard doors-if so probably will need to look at door surrounds as well.

When you have more questions feel free to ask there a lot of people on here willing to help.

Hi all, Thanks for all the advice and I will upload a couple of pics later. I have a question though:
Does the sahara have a bigger body than the sport or otrher wranglers. I swear my sahara is bigger than all the little sports i see out there. I've always loves the size of the sport and people keep telling me they are all the same size, but i swear that my sahara is bigger. Can anyone tell me for sure if the 2003 sahara is bigger in body size than other wranglers, particularly a sport???? Thanks all.

the 97-99 is a tad shorter in length compared to the 2000-2003, but barely enough to notice (4"). i think it's also about 2 inches wider.. i thinkkkk. not sure on that one.

do you have a hard top? that would definitely make it look bigger.

ooh shmexy. it probably is because of the hard top. especially if youre comparing to others with soft tops.
